It's been five years since Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett first worked together to solve the Tri-State murders, and time has been both harsh and kind. Engaged now, they face the challenge of planning a deeply uncertain future together.
Zane is at the pinnacle of his career with one last mystery to solve while Ty is at sea in a world where he's no longer the tip of a spear. There's just one more hurdle in the way of their happy ever after: a traitor from their inner circle who threatens to burn their world to the ground. Squeezed between the Vega cartel, an unknown mole, and too many alphabet agencies to count, Ty and Zane must gather all their strength and resources to beat the longest odds they've ever faced. To make it out alive, they'll need help from every friend they've got. Even the friends who might betray their trust.

The series has gone through three narrators (I recommend skipping the first narrator for books 1 & 2), Sean Crisden for books 3 - 5 and then J.F. Harding for the books 6 - 9. Both Sean and J.F. are great narrators but I have to same that J.F. is my fave of the two. He really is Ty and Zane. J.F. does an amazing job with making a mostly male cast stand out. Each character has their own voice and J.F. does more than just read the books, he truly performs them. I will listen to more of J.F.'s work. I must!
Great Ending to the BEST Romance story ever!

While the three narrators were all good, I think the last one captured the characters best, and by this book he had a real feeling for them. I especially love his slight Texan drawl for Zane.
There aren't many series that I think get better as they go, but these books are an exception to that. Each book not only revealed more plot twists and introduced more characters, but the characters who were in multiple books grew as people. They changed and became more nuanced with each book. While the romance genre is often plagued by melodrama for its own sake, I think this series controlled that better than most, and that was largely due to that character building. (Also, the adventure aspect helped distract from the dramatic moments.)
I'm sure there are detractors who think the characters are all a little close to the edge, mentally speaking, but I think anyone who has had major contact with the military, particularly combat vets, will see a lot of similarities with these characters.
There was a television-esque feel at times, since the characters were seriously injured in each book, and then recovered enough to do it again very quickly. Roux does address this, though, pointing out that Ty's hands are prematurely arthritic because of the abuse.
Bottom line: If you're interested in character driven romance/action, there's an excellent chance you'll like the series, and this is one of the best installments in the series.
One of the best in the series
