About this listen

Perfect for fans of forbidden love, high-stakes games, and everything supernatural. Creatures of Chaos is a fast-paced YA urban fantasy series that’s being called The Serpent and the Wings of Night meets Crave.

Chaos, the vicious supernatural competition where heroes are born and riches are won.

To most, it's just an urban legend whispered in the darkest shadows, but that all changes when my best friend drags me into a savage world where vampires, shifters, and fae compete for glory and fame.

As a creature without magic, I’d be a fool to enter Chaos, but the prize—a dagger of untold power—could change my powerless existence. With that dagger, I could wield magic, earn respect, and maybe, just maybe, win the heart of the dragon heir… it’s a risk I have to take.

Now, I'm pitted against beasts in a ruthless battle with no powers, no plan, and an infuriatingly attractive ally who’s just as likely to slit my neck as save it. Every round of Chaos leads me closer to seizing my deepest desires or losing everything.

In Chaos, survival is the only rule. And winning is all that matters.

Incredible YA fantasy

SCREAMING. CRYING.
THAT ENDING.
JULIE HALL HOW DAAAAARE YOU.

You conniving evil genius. Where is the next book? I need it immediately. More than Onyx Storm even. Like, I can't even fathom waiting for this next book.

Okay, calming down. Let me get to a review here before I go scream incoherently into a pillow for hours.

Creatures of Chaos reminds me of a YA version of Fourth Wing and the closest YA book I can think of to compare it to is House of Night. It gives you that same visceral REACTION - where you're like "I don't think this series is the best series ever but I CANNOT stop reading it because I need to know how it ends." And seriously, I devoured this book (on audio) and I just want MORE. Especially more of Talon. If he is not end game, I don't know how I will survive, okay. Please let this be a slow burn for them. PLEASE. I don't hate Becks but Talon makes me feel SO much more and I love that boy to pieces. He's so adorable.

Again, I will reiterate, this isn't like "the best book ever" and honestly many of you will be like "omg, this is too dramatic and YA for me" like it's a bad thing to be. I devoured it though, and I am left starving for more. Just be warned if you don't like YA books where the FMC is pining after a guy, then you should steer clear. Also, if you hate love triangles, you can just leave now. HAHAHA.

It also kind of reminds me of the Selection a little bit. And I did see some of Aspen in Becks - but I will also say that Becks is much better! Just a few tiny aspects that remind me of Aspen. Talon, however, reminds me a lot more of Xaden from FW than Maxon. Maxon is just such a cinnamon roll innocent whereas Talon is this dark mysterious creature that is drawn to Locklyn because she's just ... a girl trying to survive and live and love and gosh, she's so cute too. Whyyy. I can't even begin to understand why I even like her because she's so ??? I bet you guys will hate her but I feel for her. I love her a lot - she's trying her best in this world that will always be against her for not having magic.

This review became a ramble of craziness and I can't even help it because I WANT MORE NOW.

Best YA of the year!

Absolutely hands down my favorite read of the year! Julie Hall is one of my favorite authors and she hit it out of the park with this story! She knows how to write swoony YA MMCs (looking at you Becks and Talon.) Creatures of Chaos has a fantasy Hunger Games/Fight Club vibe that I’m obsessed with, and all the tropes that I love: best friend to lovers, forbidden love, love triangle, fake dating, morally gray MMC. Locklyn is a relatable FMC and love her arc in this story. The question is, are you team Becks or team Talon? Book 2 can’t come soon enough!

I listened to the audio for my second read and wow was I still hooked! Great narration - can’t wait to listen again.

Devoured this!

Oh my word! I devoured this book! I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was fantastic but the story was fairly well nonstop action. So much going on the entire time.
I was surprised when the ending hit. I really should’ve seen the signs, but I was too engrossed in the story to pick up on clues.
At any rate, this is a new favorite series for me and I’m desperate for book 2!

team Talon!

What a adventure this book took me on! Locklyn is a great friend and a badass women even without magic. She fights tooth and nail for the ones she cares about and never let's others keep her down. All she wants is to be the perfect match for her childhood crush so she joins a competition to win a magical item that will give her magic of her own. But it's not as easy as she thought. This was such a great book and cannot wait for book 2!

Love this book so much!

I freaking love this book!

If I had to compare it to another book, it would be Crave, but WAY better! We have a magicless girl in a world full of magical creatures, 2 boys fighting over her, and the best cast of creatures you will ever find!

It has...
A magicless FMC in a supernatural world
Friends to lovers
A second love interest who's morally grey
Magical & deadly trials
The best cast of side characters
All the feels!!!

A couple of my favorite quotes ...
“The first time we kiss Freckles, it won't be to make another guy jealous. It'll be because we can't live another second without tasting each other's lips. I'm a patient creature. I can wait.”

“If Chaos was good for anything, it taught me I'm enough just as I am. If anyone can't accept me for my lack of magic, then that's their problem, not mine.”

Amanda did a fabulous job narrating this book!

simply outstanding.

excellent story, characters, world building and ending. can't wait for the next book!

now for some frustrating things. Locklyn, I love her character, but the fooling herself and delusion that she is head over heels for Becks, when Talon arrives is aggravating. she really isn't, and her lies and decieving Becks are proof of that. yes it's a typical triangle and good story generating, but it is actually hurtful to Becks in many ways.

yea Becks could be a little less hovering over her, but seriously, he cares about her, loves her, and while his actions and decisions he makes are All because of that. it's the way good guys are, that need to work on some things. Talon is a good guy too,.don't get me wrong, but they are just two different guys.

!!!Spoilers ahead!!!

I really don't think He will die,.but man, who knows? the story is going to take on a trying to stop the delusional dude and not save him. so I could see his character being written out, there wouldn't be a need for him in the next story, just a need to find the crazy villain and stop him, which I hope isn't the case, the BS Talon gives Locklyn about always being a choice, is true, but becks choices were seriously fixed and controlled. he was delt a pretty crappy situation. I think he is the right one for Locklyn, and may he owes her some apologies and promises to change the way he tried to protect her, but really Talon does the same thing, protects her. but Locklyn owes Becks the truth as well, all the things she hid from him with Talon. her mixed up feelings for them both, she should either quit deluding herself and stringing Becks along, and make a dang choice. I mean, maybe she won't have to in the continuing story. If he is still alive, I fell like they will go to earth, and she will still be wishy washy, even though she was spouting off how Becks thought it was real how she ended things with him, and real how she was with Talon........well, wasn't it??? Real? isn't that how she really feels? Becks deserves better.

Action packed & swoony YA Romantasy/ Urban Fantasy

OBSESSED. I am totally and utterly captivated by this super bingeable story! This is told from the POV of the FMC, Locklyn. I loved the way the narrator performed her POV. If you enjoy YA Romantasy/ Urban Fantasy run and grab this audiobook, just trust me… but if you need more info…

Julie Hall brings it with this one. The characters are interesting and genuine and the storyline is super engaging – like if Hunger Games and Powerless had a baby… this would be it. Julie’s writing is quick-paced and fun, full of twists and surprises. And one wicked cliffhanger!

I found myself so invested in Locklyn (although on more than one occasion she annoyed the heck out of me while she pinned away for Becks – insert eye roll here). Amanda Cobb brings all the sass and heart of Locklyn to life.

Swoony, funny, exhilarating, captivation (yeah, I know I already used this word)… basically I’m gonna need book 2 like yesterday

Great story and narration!

Such a fun, exciting and swoon-worthy story that will keep you listening til the dreaded end. I was not prepared for that ending. I need the next book now lol. The author has created an amazing world with relatable characters and I cannot wait for more! Literally read the entire book in only a few hours because it is that thrilling. The narrator is excellent and enhances an already thrilling tale!

PG-13 no explicit scenes

Highly recommend this action packed, fast paced, electrifying romantasy that will capture your imagination and your heart!

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with a copy of the audiobook. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Magical Hunger Games - tons of fun!

This was literally a magical Hunger Games and I was here. for. it! Besides all of the brooding we’ve come to love in a good Young Adult story, the action and intrigue in this book were off the charts. I loved the historical background we got surrounding the games and the blade, and each and every character. This book was a ton of fun. It seems like it’s building up to a be a great series, and the ending had me absolutely cursing. We love, and hate, a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what book two brings! Narration was amazing!
