About this listen

In the race to save one of their own, Sigma Force must wrestle with the deepest spiritual mysteries of mankind in this mind-expanding adventure from the number-one New York Times best-selling author, told with his trademark blend of cutting-edge science, historical mystery, and pulse-pounding action.

Arriving home on Christmas Eve, Commander Gray Pierce discovers his house ransacked, his pregnant lover missing, and his best friend’s wife, Kat, unconscious on the kitchen floor. With no shred of evidence to follow, his one hope to find the woman he loves and his unborn child is Kat, the only witness to what happened. But the injured woman is in a semicomatose state and cannot speak - until a brilliant neurologist offers a radical approach to “unlock” her mind long enough to ask a few questions.

What Pierce learns from Kat sets Sigma Force on a frantic quest for answers that are connected to mysteries reaching back to the Spanish Inquisition and to one of the most reviled and blood-soaked books in human history - a Medieval text known as the Malleus Maleficarum, the Hammer of Witches. What they uncover hidden deep in the past will reveal a frightening truth in the present and a future on the brink of annihilation and force them to confront the ultimate question: What does it mean to have a soul?

Amazing

An absolute home run. Rollins never fails to disappoint, but this Sigma adventure was a real treat. The technological aspects of this novel were pivotal to its success and the detail captured was comprehensive without being overdone. Something not easily achieved. Writers hoping to deliver an exceptional techno-thriller tend to either overindulge in the tech aspects of the tale, or skimp to the point where they lose credibility. Rollins continues to walk this delicate line with precision and finesse to deliver a spellbinding thriller that keeps the pages flying by from begging to end.

Another great SIGMA novel!

I’ll admit there were times when this book had a different feel than some of the others, but overall it’s a fantastic book with a great story.

Wow! Just Wow!

I have followed the Sigma team novels from the beginning. This was the most gut wrenching story yet. These thrillers, set at the edges of today's science always offer a lot of food for thought as well as some major thrills.

This time we take on Artificial Intelligence. That alone makes for some pretty trippy scenarios that could occur. Amp that up with danger striking at the very families of our heroes and you have an exhausting ride.

The book had more terrifying scenes than most series have in three books. It was amazing. highly recommended.

James Rollins at his BEST

I totally love all of the technology in the book. Of course I loved the Sigma Force Team at their finest. How could they be any better than when they are taking care of their own.

I cannot possibly imagine what territory James will tread next.

Too bad I will have to wait another year. 😃

Brilliant, yet terrifying.

Thought it was going to be a struggle to finish since it started a bit slower than previous novels of the series; I was very wrong. This one is nothing short of brilliant... and terrifying.

Great series but...

Love the Sigma series but too much weirdness in this one with all the computer generated life.
