Publisher's summary

In the aftermath of the War with No Name, the Colony has been defeated, its queen lies dead, and the world left behind will never be the same. In her madness, the queen used a strange technology to uplift the surface animals, turning dogs and cats, bats and bears, pigs and wolves into intelligent, highly evolved creatures who rise up and kill their oppressors. And now, after years of bloodshed, these sentient beasts must learn to live alongside their sworn enemies - humans.

Far removed from this newly emerging civilization, a housecat turned war hero named Mort(e) lives a quiet life with the love he thought he had lost, a dog named Sheba. But before long, the chaos that they escaped comes crashing down around them. An unstoppable monster terrorizes a nearby settlement of beavers. A serial killer runs amok in the holy city of Hosanna. An apocalyptic cult threatens the fragile peace. And a mysterious race of amphibious creatures rises from the seas, intent on fulfilling the Colony's destiny and ridding the earth of all humans. No longer able to run away, Sheba and Mort(e) rush headlong into the conflict, ready to fight but unprepared for a world that seems hell-bent on tearing them apart. In the twilight of all life on earth, love survives - but at a cost that only the desperate and the reckless are willing to pay.

It was better than idiotic religious ending

This book was better than the Mort(e) where ending was idiotically religious while it also dissing religion in some ways, I don't know what author is trying to say to others. Anyways, I just liked characters and world chronologically in book 1 but I like story of book 2.

I enjoy it

Though same thing were hard to follow I think it is a good addition to the series. I’m excited to read the last one. Also the characters in the book were very identifiable and I like their arcs.

amazing adventure story

Literally the best book
great story of emotion, war, and revolution of a new society after a very unique catastrophe.
one of the best adventures I've ever taken, the structure of the book, the details and the immense back story on all the characters and such, are all so well executed and the best part?
The second book is even better! i haven't gotten to the third yet but i have high hopes.
also the narrator is top notch

Mort(e) was great and so was this

I absolutely loved this. So many interesting characters. Nice descriptions of combat and action. Loved the audible narrator and how he distinguished the different characters. Great literary work with a great audible performance.

Best sequel you can imagine

The performance makes this an astounding audiobook. Each and every character has a distinct accent and tone and given most are animals that's impressive. The story itself is important, interesting, and full of excellent details to immerse readers fully. I have not been invested in a book series like this in years.

Felt like a bad fan fiction. story all over

I enjoyed Morte, and was excited for this one. But the story was all over the place, a struggle to pay attention to, Morte became so unlikable, as did the likability of many other characters suffered. the worst part was, it felt like an awful fan fiction.

I

Dont really think this continuation of Morte really doesn't had a function. Not complaining of logic in such a story (or I may forgotten something) but what kind of creature will be the next soldiers of the queen....
