Publisher's summary

Attorney Garrett Goodlove never thought he'd prosecute a medical malpractice case. Doctors swear an oath to help people, and those cases are usually honest mistakes blown up by ambulance chasers.

But when he learns of a woman bodybuilder who went into the ER with a case of heartburn and came out in a wheelchair, he starts paying attention. It appears the doctor who saw her frequently orders open-heart surgery for patients who don't need it, sometimes leading to disability or death. And the doc knows exactly what he's doing. Garrett is convinced: The surgeon must be stopped.

Teaming up with his daughter, a new law school graduate, Garrett must clear the reputation of their prime witness while battling the doctor's team of elite attorneys who are always one step ahead. The expenses are adding up, but it's too late to back out.

If he doesn't prevail, not only will the surgeon continue harming patients to line his pockets, but Goodlove's law firm will be forced into bankruptcy.

No suspense no violence which I like in legal mysteries

This blook is not as sophisticated legally as many legal mystery/thriller writers these days. Also it is uniquely suited to a younger audience since there is no violence to speak of nor any super traumatic issues.

The narrator I found a bit plodding. It wasn’t terrible thanks I can imagine him being the author of the book I didn’t check city wasn’t as good as even Michael brick who I don’t care for much either. He imitated some accents to varying degrees of success.

Quick Read

No surprises here. Quick read . Loved the trial scenes and will probably read the next installment. A longer book - at least 12hrs would be a game changer.

How innocent people can be deceived

A good believable story, well written and illuminating. I guess it is believable, because of all the fraudulent things that are happening in country, medical practice is not exempt. I like Macy's protaginist and all the characters that are involved with him. It is a good court drama about how dishonest medical people can deceive innocent patients.
The narration was excellent.
I like Macy's writing and I look forward to reading or listening to more of his stories.

Mr. Macy hits the mark again!

This is the third book in the Goodlove series, but works well as a stand alone.

Mr.Macy outlines each character's background well enough that the listener won't feel like they missed anything by not listening to the other books.

The theme here, is a nerve rattling one. We are all at the mercy of the ones who profess to be professionals and we never know when we will cross one that can't be trusted and will abuse the authority and power they have in our lives.

For ones who listened to the past stories, all the characters are back and in grand shape! A few changes, pleasing and interesting changes! The characters are being fleshed out and developing into people I will always want to be invested in every time Mr. Macy drops another book.

I am already looking forward to the next book in this series! I binge listened this one today.
Bit of an irony, I listened to a book about malpractice, to avoid the news about the nightmare virus!!

There's a couple of "WHOA!! Didn't see that coming" twists! One had me saying "WHAT?" out loud and spooking my husband!!

Nick Sullivan, as before, voices each character with a solid distinction that makes it easy to know who is speaking.

Attorney Garrett Goodlove is a breathe of fresh air in the legal genre. There's not another one in print out there like Garrett.
Mr Macy writes Garrett with a quirky, sometimes corny, sometimes punny sense of humor, at time just a little racy, but always tasteful and chuckle worthy, even if it does start with a groan.

His P.I. Luella gives him a run for his money in jokes and grit. She's the perfect balance to Garrett's character.

Garrett's twin sister is deaf (from birth) and the realtionship is written in such a manner you can feel and empathize with the connection they have as siblings and more so as twins. The skill Mr. Macy uses to weave the use of American sign language (A.S.L.) into the written word has amazed me from the first book I listened to. It's one of the things that got me hooked on the series.

The topic of chronic depression is handled deftly. It's discussed in a manner of gravity but not preachy.

Even tho it is a medical theme, it's a good way to get away from the news of the day, get lost for a little while and forget we are all sheltering in place and jumping and wanting a Silkwood shower every time ---we--- or someone---- near us sneezes or coughs!!

Terrific!

I've now read all three of Macy's Garrett Goodlove series and totally look forward to the next one. They're not "cozy" but only because they hit on some ugly and often difficult real life problems. I suggest reading them in order because there is a background arc which progresses through them.

I liked it

I enjoyed this book. It moved quickly, just enough - but not too many words.
My husband suffered a minor stroke after having an angiogram. I also have a friend who this also happened to. It is uncommon but does happen.
