About this listen

A Space Marine Battles anthology

As the world of Agrellan falls under attack, the White Scars and Raven Guard rush to its defence, but with Commander Shadowsun leading the alien forces, the Space Marines and their allies are hard pressed.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

Gathered within this anthology are four action-packed novellas focusing on the cataclysmic campaign in the Damocles Gulf. Each tale sheds light on a different aspect of the war and those involved. Towering war machines duke it out on the battlefield, Space Marine and tau philosophies come under question as they clash with ally and enemy alike and hunters become the hunted as both sides try to outwit one another. You even get an insider view of how the Tau Empire treats its human collaborators and uses them as weapons

THE STORY

Two centuries ago, the Imperium of Man and the upstart Tau Empire fought to a standstill in the Damocles Gulf. Now, as the 41st millennium draws to a close, the tau have returned. As the world of Agrellan falls under attack, the White Scars and Raven Guard rush to its defence, but with the skilled Commander Shadowsun leading the alien forces, the Space Marines and their allies are hard pressed. Kor'sarro Khan, Huntmaster of the White Scars, swears that he will win the day in the most direct way possible – by taking Shadowsun's head.

the voice actor is great and works great for the main factions. the characters are learning about their opponents for the first time. only having heard of their opponents in most cases.
the audiobook is 4 smaller books in one, that together shows a good view of the war for the Damocles Gulf.
the human, space marine, Tau and other alien perspectives are shown and it is fascinating.
there were only rare cases where the story had a little dip in the quality so I would rate it 9.5/10 overall 👌

great voice actor and great insight into the Damocles wars and how the emperium and Tau learn about each other

if you're buying this hoping to learn more about the Tau, you'll get about 1.5 stories worth, and the rest of the collection is about the white scars and "their way."

if you're bored with space marine stories then you're out of luck

I enjoyed this for a variety of reasons. The story and plot are solid. I particularly enjoyed the format of multiple short stories that came together to tell an overaching plot. The voice acting is superb. most major characters have a different voice and it is usually easy to distinguish between who is talking just by the readers performance. The story highlights the strengths and weaknesses of both sides. The T'au are shown to be a real threat to the imperium in general and the white scats in particular while still being vulnerable to having their weaknesses exploited.

stellar voice acting brought the characters to life

I like how the different authors create different novellas all focusing on the Damocles Crusade. they mesh well, though, Emperor forgive me, I started to become sympathetic to the tau. I can't bring myself to finish the last 2 hours of the book. the tau are dominating, and despite being an imperial supremacist, I'm starting to wonder if that's not a bad thing.

I prefer a story that shows humanities struggle to survive against all the odds, the horrors they go through and mostly manage to win. like the gaunts ghost series.

Difficult read, good stories
