A bit confusing

the story seems the middle of a trilogy but can't stand on its own living you scratching your head more than ones.

yet the voice acting was very well done.

Great but not easily followed

This is a great book. It is the first of the second series, the first being The Tome of Fire. Although it is not nexcesary to read the first series it does help a bit and this will not seem as confusing at first. In general a great book.

Excellent all around. Great narration, story and epilogue!

I’ve been listening to damn near every Black Library book on audible these days. This was fantastic all around. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of books.

Frustrating

Spoilers below. This book is infuriating to me. Purposely walking into a telegraphed ambush with a full armored column isn’t the action of a Captain. The Dreadnaught was perhaps the best Salamander, putting himself in harms way to save the human his Captain would have ended up killing.

That being said, I enjoyed the voice work tremendously, given the material he was forced to read. Particularly like the ships captain.

Uncommonly bad

Relied on hackneyed/tired tropes. Bad storyline paralleling. Bad writing, even for a Warhammer book.
