About this listen

During his 40-year career in the worlds of law, sports, business, and politics, Ron Shapiro has worked with a great variety of people. He's found that the secret for getting into the winner's circle is simply disciplined preparation.

In Dare to Prepare, successful people, such as wine guru Robert Parker, investment legend Bill Miller, pianist Leon Fleisher, Goldman Sachs partner Lisa Fontenelli, broadcaster Bob Costas, firefighter Ann Marie Tierney, New York Mets manager Willie Randolph, and many others share the way they apply discipline in preparing for career-changing games, deals, meetings, and interviews.

Cal Ripken, Jr., played thousands of games in the major leagues but prepared for each like it was his first. Here are the steps necessary for you to prepare like a champion.

"Preparation is the Key "

I enjoyed listening to the reading of this book. The examples were truly practical.

worth listening to

Shapiro does a good job of explaining about 15 different ways why preparation is a key success factor in whatever endeavor you are involved in. What's most interesting, is that his examples come from a very wide range of good preparers...from musicians to lawyers to surgeons to sports stars.
Great narration, lot's of energy in Shapiro's voice.

Interesting but dull

It was an interesting topic, but the discussion was at times painfully dull. I found myself listening to an hour of the audiobook for one or two inciteful comments.

Nothing I haven't already heard.

Boring. Regurgitated information. Nothing NEW. What else do you have? I cannot believe this book was rated as high as it was. Clearly overrated.

Examples illustrated with unfamiliar examples

The author provides some good tips but I feel that he could have chosen people for his examples that readers would be more familiar with. I found myself listening to the book just to see what new tips each chapter would offer but by the time I got to chapter 8, I could not go any further.
