Publisher's summary

One mistake and those I love could die.

Hiding behind my brother and his friends has made it easy to keep my secrets, but since Merith came to Arda only months ago, my life has been wrecked. My father exposed, my brother obsessed...and now, because I let myself care about someone who is practically a stranger to me, I've been revealed as what I truly am.

This curse's hold over me is irrevocable, my life more entwined in it than I can manage on my own. Can I overcome my fears and let my family and friends help me, or hide within myself, determined to protect them from deadly truths only I can discern?

Clare Thorne has lurked in her older brother Kyle's shadow for years, making sure to avoid attention. What she can't avoid is her birthright, a curse that has become overwhelming in the wake of Merith Leigh's arrival at Arda Academy and the destruction it has sown in her life - with more to come. If the future holds nothing but ruin for those she loves, what can she possibly do to protect them from certain death?

Good

I really love this story line. I love all the characters. However, if I heard "my sister" any more, I might have screamed.

Continuing the Magic

I'll be honest, Clare is not my favorite character. However, the deeper this book went, the more I realized it's because both she and Merith have a martyr complex. I did enjoy getting to have a better picture of Clare and what went on inside her head. It's nice to know that the spoiled brat part was just for show and she wasn't actually as shallow as she seemed. I liked the elements of the continuation of the story. Clare meeting her family was a good addition. The resolution felt a little less...resolved than I was hoping, but overall a good story and worth listening to!

cute

I did really enjoy that each book in this series was from a different siblings point of view, I thought that was a fun idea. This is a clean book and a good story idea. The narrator does a great job. The thing I find annoying is that in the end the problems they were having at school were solved despite the efforts of the main characters. In the end, the uncle fixes everything by himself, so why didn't he do this years ago? Also another character has magic and it was never addressed, not sure if there is going to be another book in the series. Overall it is an ok book, was an easy book to listen to while driving the kids around to soccer practice.

So much fun!

I love how this author has grown in her skills. Darling a promise with such a great conclusion for this series. I enjoyed every minute of it! I love how the endings of these books have magical simplicity. This novel as the ones before it swept me in and kept me engaged until the end. Wonderful!
The narrator did a fantastic job as usual. She gave such life to each of the characters.

Paranormal Teen Mystery

This series is interesting and the characters are captivating. Unfortunately, Clare is one of the characters I struggled to connect with. She is young and immature for sure but her behavior is often hard to understand or justify. At least there is more than meets the eye with her.

Narration was excellent and brought the story to life.

Clare wants to protect her brother and Merith but comes across very selfish and nobody understands her actions. This is a suspenseful series, and a lot is revealed in this installment about the curse and what needs to be done to break it.

The story wraps up nicely and we have better understanding of the reason for the animosity and curse.

Good story

Book 3 is from Clare’s POV, as we learn more about her, the force that lies within the school grounds is demanding retribution. Getting to know Clare in this book, you understand why she had a stony personality in the previous books. This series has been a good clean read that even younger readers would enjoy.

Narration ruined it!

I only finished this series because I hate not knowing the ending to a series but it was a serious struggle due to the narration! The narrator was rather awful. In my opinion she comes across whiny and makes the characters sound like total brats in every book and what is with the super high pitch at the beginning of each chapter? I think the book could of been so much better with a different narrator. This book was better than the second book but still was no where close to the first book in the series!
