About this listen

In the middle of Cork, in the middle of the day, a fire crackles in a local dance studio. Thirteen women, all promising stars of Irish folk, die in the blaze, their young lives cut short by a tragic accident. But where others see tragedy, DCI Katie Maguire sees murder.

This is not the first fire to sweep through Cork. And in one previous case, the victims were dead before the fire was started. As Katie Maguire investigates the strange, obsessive world of competitive Irish folk dancing, she must face her most chilling killer yet.

I don't like cliff hangers

Unfortunately, this book ended with a cliffhanger, and I don't like cliffhangers. Overall a good police procedural. I recommend starting with the first book in the series.

Not as good as the first two in the series!

When you find a great narrator, such as Aoife McMahan, who narrated the first book in this series, and also the narrator for the second book (don't have her name handy), and then change, it is a disappoinment! First of all, Aoife McMahan, became the familiar voice of Katie Maguire for me, and Deirdre O'Connell wasn't nearly as good! She used the same tone of voice pretty much throughout the entire book, no.mstter what was going on. I made it through the whole book, however, but not happily!
There are more books in this series, but it says that Audible doesn't have the rights to those! Since this is a series, could you try to get the rights? Thanks Audible!

Good policy procedural, better with McMahon as narrator

Have listened to all of theses as the are available (unfortunately they have not been available in order) and none are for the faint of heart. Bit more gratuitous detail in both the violence scenes and sex scenes (and it’s obvious this is a male perspective especially during the “love making”) than there needs to be, but over all, engaging writing. The best I ones are narrated by Aoife McMahon.

Hardly worth listening to this narration

Incredibly bad narration. “Ho Hum… her hair is on fire and his face is melting.” Yawn. “But don’t worry because it’s no big deal. I don’t really care about the victims. Would you like a cup in your hand?” Seemed like the narrator had no idea what was happening and was reading a very different and very boring story. She read the description of waiting for muesli to arrive with as much emotion as she read the gruesome details of the fiery disaster in the beginning. Disappointing.

This is a great listen!

A thrilling story and superb narration. I highly recommend this series! The narrator has made me try other titles with they’ve done!
