About this listen

Audible number-one best seller Peter Clines returns with a thrilling tale of the creature above - and the deadly threat below.

In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead.

The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past.

But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance.

An enemy that is already dead.

Now Cali and her compatriots must fight to survive. Because if they don’t, everyone on the Moon may be joining the dead.

And maybe everyone on Earth, too....

Critic reviews

"Narrator Ray Porter actually catches a break with this gruesome science-fiction audiobook. Much of this thriller's cast is composed of thousands of silent zombies, so Porter doesn't have to differentiate much among them.... But he still shines while bringing to life multinational characters, ably employing distinctive accents and timbres. He really ramps up the tension as a dwindling handful of survivors struggles to save humankind from a chilling threat." (AudioFile Magazine)

Featured Article: The top 100 series of all time

The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Editor's Pick

Two Words: Moon. Zombies.
"That’s all it took to turn my attention to Dead Moon! I for one can’t imagine anything scarier than combining the isolation of the moon with going head to head with an enemy (or thousands) that don’t need air to survive—but trust me when I say that that’s just scratching the surface. With Peter Clines’s incredible world-building and Ray Porter’s spot-on narration, just add a dash of humor and know that you’ve got a recipe for an un-pause-able listen! Now, I must admit that, despite the rave reviews heard around the Audible offices for 14 and The Fold, I’ve never listened to the Threshold Series. So worry not, whether you’re a fan whose been eagerly awaiting this next installment or a newcomer, Dead Moon stands on its own as a sci-fi thriller that starts out somewhat eerie, and quickly amps up the tension." —Catherine H., Audible Editor

Doesn't make a lot of sense, really annoying..

Was so excited for this book, but it's really hard to get past the constant overly complex made up scenerios. It's space travel and they don't have coms? Or space suit repairs? Really?

I’m not finishing this book.

I love the other books in this series (14 and The Fold) and have listened to them each twice. Sadly, this book is all action and no plot or character development. I don’t think I can stand to listen to another 7 hours of this... “this” being but nothing but descriptions of random zombie attacks... Which makes me sad, because I normally love the Peter Clines / Ray Porter duo.

Lovecraft Would Be Proud

I fell into Peter Clines by accident, and what a continuously giving happy accident that became... Dead Moon is right there w/ 14, and for my money he surpassed that excellence w/ this one... Wicked awesome bad assery, geekery, and relentless pacing that kept me from entertaining thought of pausing the read... Although this is listed as bk3 in a series you can read this independent of 14 and/or The Fold... It really is a stand alone regardless of what the summary says, and sincerely hope this isn’t the last we get to spend time w/ this setting and characters... Do yourself a favor and click on that purchase/credit button, and you’re welcome...

Couldn't stóp listening

It's been a great listę all the way through, although I listę ed to the previous novels there's no need to handle the story. As always great performance from Ray Porter. Can't wait for the next novel

Lazy writing

Agree with previous reviews. Many of the characters behave in ways that are just not explainable, the author has used it to drive the plot but it is beyond the realm of normal behavior. I find it quite lazy to write this way, should've figured out a different way to drive the plot forward. Instead it makes the reader annoyed.
also the character development takes way to long, no one cares about any of these people at the start of the book. it isn't until near the end you start to understand some of the motivation.
really enjoyed 14 and this wasn't anything like it. skip this entry

Another Peter Clines hit!

This book does what it's supposed to do. Takes me on a ride and fills me with excitement and wonder the whole way through. Very well thought out and executed story. It really delivers. A fun listen!

Another amazing story from an amazing writer

Peter Clines has done it again - weaving a tale that defies genre definition. The author knows all the old tropes, and avoids them all skillfully. By the 20 minute mark he has his hooks in you and doesn’t let up until the ride is over. Come for the well-developed characters, imaginatively crafted near-future world and suspenseful storytelling, stay for Roy Porter’s masterful voice acting. Even if you’ve never read any other of the Threshold stories, don’t give it another thought. You don’t need to have read anything else to enjoy this, and it’s as good a hopping-on point as any. But once you do, be sure to pick up 14 and The Fold, because you will enjoy those just as much.

Love the author and the performer

I found this series while checking out what books in the audible library were narrated by ray porter. Mr. Porter seems to get the best stories, and has a voice that just makes the story so much more interesting. I stumbled upon peter clines looking for such books and WOW, these two together are a truly dynamic duo. Peter clines threads all of his books together with a few common threads that hint at a truly great underlying science fiction story. Truly impressed with both peter clines and ray porter in the threshold series.
