About this listen

When Tess Devlin runs into her ex-husband, Nick, on a Boston sidewalk, she's furious at him for pretending he doesn't know her. She calls his cell to have it out with him only to discover that he's in New Hampshire with his current girlfriend. But if Nick's in New Hampshire...who did she encounter on the street?

Frank Lindbergh's dreams have fallen apart. He wanted to get out of the grim neighborhood where he'd grown up and out of the shadow of his alcoholic father. Now both his parents are dead, and he's back in his childhood home, drinking too much himself. As he sets in motion his plans for the future, he's assaulted by an intruder in his living room...an intruder who could be his twin.

In an elegant hotel, Tess will find mystery and terror in her own reflection. Outside a famed mansion on Beacon Hill, people are infected with a diabolical malice...while on the streets, an eyeless man, dressed in rags, searches for a woman who wears Tess' face.

This is the second Christopher Golden novel I've had the pleasure of listening to. Snowblind was the first novel of Golden's I came across and after hearing it I knew if the two were anything alike in style I wouldn't be disappointed... and I was right.

The story starts subtly at first, drawing you in with a hint of that tingly sensation you get when you see something you know you couldn't have seen. As the action progresses so does your connection with the small group of main characters. One of Mr. Golden's strengths is in his strong character development. He is able to portray their feelings and emotions in such a way that you don't even realize its being done, suddenly you just know them as if you knew them in real life. Some you may love, others you may hate but you find yourself sticking with them to the very end. Although you do have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit, this is a story about what how well you actually know the people in your life and what could happen if you lose sight of your true self. A very interesting premise and I listened to it every chance I got. The narrator did a great job, made it very easy to listen to. Looking forward to his next hit.

Eerily enjoyable listen

Robert Fass has such great ownership of his characters that you really felt the turmoil in Christopher Golden's doppelgängers even more clearly. It's hard to make horror fiction believable and these two great talents did just that.

Narration does not disappoint
