About this listen

Who would you betray to save a life?

Medium Eliza Robinson will do anything for her daughter, including working on a confidential investigation at the Supernatural Human Accountability Partnership agency with her ex—the person who killed her fiance, Ben. She's desperate to find out the truth about Ben's past and what really happened the night he died, and she won't let anyone stand in her way. Her daughter's life depends on it.

Paris Evans knows Eliza will never forgive her role in Ben's death, but has vowed to protect Eliza and her daughter at all costs. She can't let anyone learn the truth about what happened that night, or who Ben really was. Not when so many lives—including her twin's—hang in the balance.

As the investigation heats up, it reignites the fire between Eliza and Paris. These two powerful psychics—one who can communicate with the dead via letters and the other who has prophetic dreams—will risk everything to protect their loved ones and discover the traitor . . . even as Paris's visions warn there may be no happy ending to their mission.

Contains mature themes.

Incoherent and random

The only thing having two female narrators did was further confuse the voicing of the two FMCs.
Paris had a stronger voice and Eliza a daintier one, but it was inconsistent for each narrator and they both failed to use Paris or Eliza’s speaking voice when they narrated the inner thoughts of each FMC.

On top of voice confusion, there were flashbacks that weren’t properly signed posted; chapters would start and I’d be lost as to what was going on until minutes later when a character awoke from a dream or a psychic vision.

The characters were rarely described beyond names (was one tall or short, lithe or muscular, blue eyed, short haired?) and maybe a one-off mention of red hair (pretty sure that’s Eliza on the cover).

There were random supernatural gifts, like the ability to communicate with the dead by writing letters at the cost of 1 year of life. The plot about Eliza blaming Paris for the loss of Eliza’s fiancé was nonsensical; there’s a huge difference between meaning to harm and failing to save and both of the FMCs lost points for their lack of common sense on this. There were other random, implausible plot points, but revealing them would be spoilery; suffice it to say, I saw the plot twists a mile away, mostly because the story was so forced.

Maybe because of all of the above issues, the romance for me lacked any chemistry. I skipped past the multiple sex scenes and only finished the story to complete the series.
