Publisher's summary

It’s spring in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Lucy and Connor have moved into their new home, at last, a historic cottage on the Nags Head Beach. Lucy is now happily immersed in her work at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library, planning her wedding, and decorating the house. But then a dead body disrupts their peaceful new abode.

The first night Lucy’s alone in the house, with the company of Charles, the library cat, she hears sounds. While investigating, they see footsteps in the dust of the unfinished living room, and the door leading outside is open. Lucy's reminded that the house is said to be haunted: forty years ago, the teenage daughter of the owners fled in the night, and never again stepped foot inside her family home.

The sounds have an all-too-human origin. One evening, Lucy and Connor find the dead body of a man in their kitchen. They soon realize he has a long-time connection to their house. Lucy's forced to find out what happened all those years ago and why it’s threatening her happiness today.

Meanwhile, the Classic Novel Reading Club is reading The House of the Seven Gables by Nathanial Hawthorne, a book about another old house full of secrets. Can Lucy find parallels to her own situation in Hawthorne’s fiction before the killer strikes again?

Plot …

Good group of characters and unique plot. However the story seems to get weaker near the end. As if author had to come up with the ending in a rush .. or she just wanted to end it quickly.

It’s okay

Please get rid of Louise Jane. She kinda ruins the story. The main character not being too bright is bad enough

This Series/Book Is My Happy Place

The Outerbanks, a library in a lighthouse, Lucy and Conner, a murder, maybe a ghost, and the dulcet tones of Elise Arsenault are a recipe for cozy mystery reading at its best.

Live this series

another fun installment in this series. This time the murder happened in our favorite librarian's New house. I though I new who the murderer was and I figured it out about the same time our heroine did. Excellent story.

A great addition to the series.

The mystery involves a wonderful look at some of the history of Nags Head while providing a great modern day setting for a murder mystery.

Not quite perfect

Greatly enjoyed it. However irritated by not learning what was the full story on one of the possible suspects.

Diane Uppiton Returns To Get Revenge

In this story, Diane Uppiton returns and gets revenge on Lucy for what she did to Curtis from a previous book in the series. She is the one that ruined The Harper Family’s life with Ralph’s brother Jimmy, and sent poor Joanne Harper into a traumatic shock until Lucy solved the mystery of the fake ghost of the siblings’ grandfather. Everyone is now at peace now that Diane finally got what she deserved like Curtis. Just like the happy ending of The House Of The Seven Gables, where the treasure was found, and all was at peace.
