About this listen

Are there any decent people left?

Having reached his kids in Maryland, Ben is faced with the challenge of crossing the country once more and getting everyone safely home to Colorado.

The struggle to survive is the only constant in their otherwise unpredictable lives. With each passing day, Ben becomes increasingly cynical about the state of mankind and worries that the children will grow up to feel the same.

Remaining vigilant is no guarantee that they will avoid problems on the journey back. Even when things seem safe, danger and evil lurk in the shadows. Letting their guard down means inviting trouble.

Ben knows that the protection he provides for his children has limits and in the end, they must learn to fight for themselves if they are to make it home. But the hardest lesson comes when Ben’s two youngest, Bradley and Emma, discover that things are not always what they seem on the road.

I have to say I enjoyed the first 5 books, although the 5 only seemed equal to 2 full length books. Book 6 was tolerable, but too short as is this one. Together they might equal 1 book…maybe. I am disappointed that the story has deteriorated into a conservative rant and some kind of tree hugger diatribe. I am just over the angst, hand ringing, poor parenting, and internal dialogue that has used up the book.

I have been around army rangers and other service people in my life. I can’t believe that this indecisive hand wringer could have ever been an elite soldier, parent or not. Too much hesitancy and poor decision making, too much ignoring of past lessons, and just too much “I just can’t believe this is happening” from everyone in the story. From my own experience it only takes one life threatening event involving other people or animals to wake a person up, at least partially. So sad, this could have been so good.

Next time leave out the condescension towards the cities, business, and the Democrats. Although I am not a city dweller everyone in America is to blame for the state of our country, not just politicians or business. We The People are the ones truly responsible for the fate of ourselves and our country.
I won’t be finishing the series, and I want my money back for this one.

I’m just over this now!

This addition to the series was enjoyable, except for the fact that the situation they ended up in at the end of the book should never have happened. Given his training and experience, Ben should really have known better. I just found the whole scenario implausible. Plus, this book felt too short to warrant the price..

Enjoyable, But...

feel like I'm being milked for money having to buy this story 1 chapter at a time. way too much rehashing of the thoughts and feelings over and over and over again

not worth the time invested

WTF did Bruno Miller do to these characters in these books they all especially Ben he acts like he is bipolar as a MTF Jesus Christ also you don't need to figure out a way to find 16 different ways to talk about the same subject if Bruno Miller would not have set there trying to play Scrabble with these damn books he might have been able to finish the series in about eight books but no he was trying to figure out how many different words he can make on the same subject yes you're a Scrabble King good for you!!!!!!!

also I've noticed that you don't have no romance or no sexy dialogue back and forth between Joel and Allie trust me when you have a 17-year-old boy and a 17 year old girl and they like each other even the end of the world isn't going to stop them from keeping their hands off each other especially a 17 year old young man and his hormones I promise you the end of the world would not stop a 17 year old from getting horny as hell from spending that much time with a female that he already had the hots for it seems like you made these books for the freaking Mickey mouse club you need listen to the audio books called Zombie rules that's how young men and women will act even in a apocalyptic event I'm telling you that Joel will have never ending tent pitched in his pants over this young woman

once again Bruno Miller does not need to figure out a way to say the same thing 16 different ways
