About this listen

When the world goes dark, a doctor embarks on a perilous journey.

Doctor Anna Hastings is no stranger to disasters, having spent much of her career as an aid worker in conflict zones around the world. Yet when an electrical phenomenon known as an EMP brings down the power grid, Anna faces catastrophe on a scale she never imagined. She must learn what it means to be a doctor in a world deprived of almost all technology.

As the blackout causes planes to fall from the sky, Anna crosses paths with devoted father Mark Ryan in the chaos at the airport. Mark convinces Anna to travel with him and his seven-year-old daughter Lily to their family’s cabin in remote Maine. There Mark hopes to reunite with his wife, and find a safe refuge from a society on the brink of collapse.

Journeying across a thousand miles of backcountry trails, they will face a daily struggle against nature. Their biggest peril, though, may come from their fellow survivors. As Anna grows closer to Mark and Lily, she resolves to see them safely home. But can she hold onto her humanity in a world gone mad?

Great characters and story

I read A LOT of post apocalypse books and it is refreshing to have a book that is not all about gun and item fetishes. This book let you enjoy the characters and the world around them. Well written and narrated. I wish the author had another book, I checked and audible didn’t have one :(

What a joy!

I started this with no great expectations since I’d never heard of this author or this narrator. Boy what a treat! I absolutely adored this audiobook and the narrator is spectacular. I am a narrator snob loving Julia Whelan, Kevin Pierce, RC Bray….i now have to add Elena Anderson to my favorites list. I haven’t looked to see if the author Linda Naighton has any more apocalypse audiobooks out so crossing my fingers. I never wanted this to end.:).
Thank you for this wonderful book. If you’ve not written more books, start now! I’ll be waiting.

Feel Good EMP Adventure

I’m glad a gave this book a shot. It was a good story w like-able characters. Some parts were a bit sappy for me but it didn’t deter me from continuing the audiobook. All in all - if there’s a sequel - I’d buy it.

Not stereotypical survival book

I really enjoyed listening to this book! Although the character Mark was annoying to me, he was so realistic. Characters had good depth, and I wish I there were more in a series with the characters. I’d love to see more of their story.

OMG - I loved it!

I accidently came across this title and I'm so glad I hit that button! I love, love, loved it. So many of these books are just action novels with a bit of dialogue linking the scenes. There is typically little to no character development and the plot is often just a regurgitation of the exact same trope with the exact same outcomes. Finally, an actual plot and actual characters with depth.

It was absolutely excellent. The narration is outstanding.

Uplifting Apocalyse?

I've listened to a ton of post apocalyptic books and this one was one of the better ones. It's a really good palette cleanser from the other overly violent EOTW books. Mark made me want to want to stab my eye out with a rusty fork but the other characters made up for him. This was written from a more positive perspective and the narration was really great. I think I have a new favorite narrator to add to the list.

I wasn't looking for a love story!

I was looking for the normal apocalyptic thriller with action at every turn, instead I got a love triangle! I couldn't finish it because it kept getting sappier and sappier with little to no action.
