Publisher's summary
The final book in the action-packed, military science fiction Lightship Chronicles series.
Peter Cochrane and his wife, Karina, have been married less than a year. And although things have been quiet in relation to the old Empire during that time, they're about to get a lot hotter. They find themselves on a diplomatic mission to Korivar, an old ally of Pendax, a new member of the Union. But during their mission, the government of Korivar attacks Peter's new command, Defiant, and tries to assassinate him and his wife.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Our outdated navy investigates, both curious and fearful. What they learn from the massive vessel shocks the planet.

Captain Mitchell "Ares" Williams is a space marine and the hero of the Battle for Liberty whose shot heard 'round the universe saved the planet from a nearly unstoppable war machine. He's handsome, charismatic, and the perfect poster boy to help the military drive enlistment. Pulled from the war and thrown into the spotlight, he's as efficient at charming the media and bedding beautiful celebrities as he was at shooting down enemy starfighters.

more of the same and that is not always bad
Would you consider the audio edition of Defiant to be better than the print version?
jullian elfer does a great job again, so prob
Who was your favorite character and why?
one would say peter but it really is peter plus karina these days
Have you listened to any of Julian Elfer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
from the series this is the best of the 3
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
yes but if i tell you its a spoiler, it has to do with peter learning the truth over his past
Any additional comments?
nope, just listen if you like militairy space opera with some flirting and political subterfuge

Tough to listen thru....
By the end, I wanted to kill Peter, lol. I'm probably done with this series, as the character because cliche and annoying. The whole structure is nonsensical, and I really hope the founders return and establish some semblance of common sense.
