About this listen

It was just another after-work happy-hour bar downtown, where business professionals unwound with a few drinks, complained about the boss, maybe hooked up with someone for the night. Until something went terribly wrong. At first it was just a friction in the air. The noise intensified. The crowd seemed oppressive. Some sharp words were exchanged; some pushing and shoving.

Then the madness descended. And after 12 minutes of chaos and violence, 80 people lay dead.

Eve Dallas is trying to sort out the inexplicable events. Surviving witnesses talk about seeing things - monsters and swarms of bees. They describe sudden, overwhelming feelings of fear and rage and paranoia. When forensics makes its report, the mass delusions make more sense: It appears the bar patrons were exposed to a cocktail of chemicals and illegal drugs that could drive people into temporary insanity - if not kill them outright.

But that doesn’t explain who would unleash such horror - or why. Eve’s husband, Roarke, happens to own the bar, yet he’s convinced the attack wasn’t directed at him. It’s bigger than that. And if Eve can’t figure it out fast, it could happen again, anytime, anywhere. Because it’s airborne....

1st ebook

Loved the book, not thrilled with voice choices used by narrator. Maybe I'll get used to them?

Great twists!

Another awesome thriller in this series! I 've listened to all of them in order and never get tired of the characters or plots. This one had an unexpected twist just when I thought Dallas had the crime all tied up. Narrator did a fantastic job with voice changes during dialogue where many characters were involved. Only got confused who was talking once.

Abridged? Bummer.

I enjoy this series a great deal and wish I had been able to purchase the unabridged version of this book.

Great book, narration not for me

I have read all 34 books before this one. I thought I would try the audible version for #35. I just didn't like the voices. Ruined the story for me. Eve's voice sounded like an older women's voice. Roarke had the Irish lilt, but was way too mild mannered and just off.

Still love the Death Series though.

Happy Hour - NOT!

Would you listen to Delusion in Death again? Why?

Normally I like the Unabridged versions of the books -but when I got this one only the Abridged version was available. Was annoyed to find the Unabridged available the following day - thought to return and repurchase but decided to listen to the Abridged version first. Good Listen! The excitement of Dallas & Roarke's lives came through the narration - as well as the character evolvement of the regular cast.I am going to keep this version and not worry about what I may have missed in the Unabridged.

What did you like best about this story?

The pace of the story line - not drawn out over days but contained and appropriate for the dynamics of the situation.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Good narration with the inflection in voice needed for different characters. I felt as if every character was talking to me with a specific different voice. Especially Peabody with her interaction with the victims/witnesses.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I work an 8 hour shift - and this 6 hour Abridged version was perfect.

Any additional comments?

Delusion in Death was worth the Credit.
