About this listen

Charlie finds herself caught in the city as it degenerates into chaos following an EMP attack.

Charlie, a successful pharmaceutical sales rep, has no background in prepping or survival. Thrust into a do or die situation, she quickly learns that leaders in Washington are working to change the country as she knows it. Her world has become a race to freedom while attempting to avoid capture by the new government's agents. She must do this while trying to escape from a city with millions of residents as food, medicine, and the rule of law all disappear.

Can Charlie and her group learn to survive, or will the lack of knowledge become their fatal flaw?

The story was a great parallel to the going home series and hope to see more of both.

Duke Fontaine- one of my favorites!

This story is hard to follow with so many 1st person narratives.
I hope the authors reconsider this style of writing.

Still waiting for Sarge to show up and save the day.

I enjoyed the Going Home series. HOWEVER. ....

I'm a huge fan of A. American's "Going Home" series. This series, likely written by Walk Browning with A. American's input, is on the same timeline and provides a parallel story line about a pharmaceutical sales rep and her tag-a-longs as they try to survive the governments "reset America" program (the EMP). This story is NOT for those that lean left politically as it makes the US government out to be as bad as Stalin and Hitler as people are herded out of their homes into labor camps. Although I don't agree with the use of the Department of Homeland Security as the new Wafen SS or East German Stasi secret police, the story artfully crafts it into this dystopian tale as a future threat to democracy. I think the story would have been better if it wove into the fabric current events where US citizens are encouraged to turn in their neighbors for perceived infractions - (ie like what is happening now with masks under COVID). This way, the tyranny of leftist governments and their use of the populations policing each other - could be integrated into this dystopian series.

The main character for the story is Charlie - but based on this book, I would argue that it's either the former US Marine/Orlando PD/DHS agent "John" or the cardiologist "Dr Kramer" as the stories seem to focus heavily on their activities. Based on the series title, bad things are likely afoot for Charlie towards the end of the series.

Walt Browning initially caught my attention when he wrote a parallel set of stories for the "Extinction Cycle" series. He did a good job there and I expect he will enhance the "Going Home" series as well. I was disappointed when the "Going Home" series" ended - too abruptly in my opinion - but this parallel series seems like it will enhance and expand that universe. It also helps that Duke Fontaine is narrating this series (he also narrated the "Going Home" series). Overall, this was very entertaining so I purchased the entire series.

Good Start to New Series
