Desperately seeking a fiance...
Miss Sarah Battersby is in dire need of a man, preferably one skilled at deception. Upon her father's death, she will be left with no home and nary a penny. With time running out, she must either accept the proposal of a man she loathes or stall long enough to secure a teaching position by telling one teensy, trifling lie - that she is promised to someone else...who doesn't technically exist.
But Sarah refuses to be defeated by insignificant details. The answer lies in finding the right man for the job. As luck would have it, she has stumbled on just the candidate...though he could use a little patching up.
Desperately seeking a refuge...
Where Lord Colin Lacey goes, trouble follows - even when he attempts to do right. Tortured and hunted by a brutal criminal, he is rescued from death's door by the stubborn, oddly fetching Miss Battersby. In return, she asks one small favor: pretend to be her fiance. Temporarily, of course.
With danger nipping his heels, he knows it is wrong to want her, wrong to agree to her terms. But when has Colin Lacey ever done the sensible thing?
Desperately seeking a love to conquer all...
As lies turn to longing, and longing to something deeper, they realize it will take more than passion to see them through the danger to come. They will need a plan. They will need family. Above all, they will need a love strong enough to steel a lady's resolve and transform a scoundrel's heart.
Contains mature themes.

No matter the past you WILL fall in love with Colin

While Colin had committed some reprehensible acts in the previous books, the author still managed to evoke empathy for his character. It was apparent he was emotionally scarred and seeking solace in alcohol, gambling and debauchery. His downfall was desperate and sad, which made his redemption story gratifying. Colin's romance with Sarah wasn't as appealing as the previous books, but I still enjoyed it and their story arc. Sarah's relationship with her family, but especially her father was sweet and emotional. Along with the romance, Colin's troubles and a ruthless suitor of Sarah's also added an exciting dose of suspense. I enjoyed seeing Colin get his happy ending, as well as some reconciliation within his family.

Sexy hot but it's Mary Sarah Agliotta that brings these characters to life. I love her!
I've listened and/or read all of Elisa Braden's books and am so glad when Mary Sarah Agliotta is her narrator.
And Sophie Darling's. I seek out MS for her Regency reads. Love this team!
Colin Redeemed! Another Great Story in The Series

I had no idea how Elisa Braden was going to redeem Colin Lacey but done how she did and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Edge of your seat moments, extremely steamy moments balanced by humour made this book one I highly recommend.
Exciting End To an excellent series

Really like this series

Though there were sensitive subjects, they were well done as usual. I do mot understand previous reviews otherwise. It’s not my favorite in this series, but most definitely a great listen as usual.
Narrator: first of all Mary Sarah is a professional and one of the best in her class. However, at times it almost sounds like she’s either drunk of on something. Maybe that’s just her style of dramatics but it can arrive at odd times in the storyline. I prefer when she’s not being over dramatic or manipulating her enunciation in odd spots. Otherwise job well done. Can’t please everyone I suppose...
on to the next if you please!
