About this listen

An actor is brutally murdered while sitting alone in his fully locked car.

A note arrives claiming responsibility and explaining the man died not for who he was, but for who he pretended to be. He played Dr. Watson in a production of Sherlock Holmes. The note promises to kill everybody in Hollywood currently playing Dr. Watson: a surprisingly long list.

Billionaire Vince Capp sends his crime fighting team, the Authorities, down from Seattle to solve the crime, stop the killer, save lives, and above all else, increase their national profile. But it won't be easy. Detective Sloan will have to wrestle with the most irritating case of her career while two of her key operatives are terribly distracted: Rutherford has found a new role model to follow and emulate, and Max must tangle with a mysterious figure from a past he'd rather forget.

Destructive Reasoning is book two in the Authorities series: a funny, thrilling, confounding mystery in a setting of Hollywood glamor viewed with Seattle ironic detachment.

Puzzling clues will be uncovered!

Shocking truths will be revealed!

Angry bees will be released!

Another great addition to Scott Oscar Myers catalog. Having never heard his full name before it is beautiful lol. If you enjoyed the first authorities book, this one stands up and is even better in many ways.

I feel like that Liam Neeson joke will be stuck in my head for weeks

Great mystery with some great jokes

lives up to the previous book in every way, and better in many ways. not sure why Audible isn't promoting this more.

...but I kind of feel like I have to. The narration at times wasn't as precise as The Authorities, but still very enjoyable. I was a tad disappointed that Audible didn't let me know sooner that this was out. Usually they don't seem to be able to stop sending emails.

Anyway, timelier punchlines left me laughing so hard in public that I was a little embarrassed by my tears and bloopers at the end were the icing I didn't know I needed.

Please don't let sour reviews deter you from listening to this audiobook. They're probably the same reviewers who are upset that there are authors like Stephen King who write characters who are representative of people who've existed forever, but were coded so that the authors wouldn't offend publishers' target audiences. Oh, and characters, "say" things. Some seem offended by the perceived overuse of the word, "said". Nit pickery seems to be rife in reviews sections of late.

I highly recommend that you don't deprive yourself of a pleasurable listening experience. Now, spend that credit and don't listen in public without expecting mild embarrassment from laughing like a lunatic. Go on, get it now.
