Publisher's summary

Many organizations are facing the uphill battle of modernizing their legacy IT infrastructure. Most have evolved over the years by taking lessons from traditional or legacy manufacturing to create a production process that puts the emphasis on the process instead of the people performing the tasks. This allows the organization to treat people like resources to try to achieve high-quality outcomes. But those practices and ideas are failing modern IT, where collaboration and creativeness are required to achieve high-performing, high-quality success.

Mirco Hering, a thought leader in managing IT within legacy organizations, lays out a road map to success for IT managers and tells them how to create the right ecosystem, how to empower people to bring their best to work every day, and how to put the right technology in the driver's seat to propel their organization to success.

But just having the right methods and tools will not magically transform an organization. The cultural change is the hardest and the most impactful. Using principles from Agile, Lean, and DevOps as well as firsthand examples from the enterprise world, Hering addresses the different challenges that legacy organizations face as they transform into modern IT departments.

great advice for all maturity levels.

Very practical advice. The author has obviously spent a lot of time developing their skill and we are fortunate enough to learn from it.

A really good overview

This book won’t really teach you DevOps as such, but it will provide you with many useful thoughts, tips and ideas to help you along the way.

This was my first of what will be several "reads".

I bought this book some time ago and have had it on my shelf, I think I listened for 15 minutes or so just to confirm it was worthwhile and made a mental note that it was and somehow never circled back. I was recently digging through my library trying to find a reference I'd remembered listening to last year and pulled this book up to see if it was what I was looking for. That was yesterday, and I'm already done with it. For the record, it wasn't the reference I was looking for. I don't even remember what I was looking for.

I am absolutely kicking myself for not finishing this title the day I bought it. This book delivers pro-tips and real, tactical value, to whatever position you currently find yourself in. This book delivers not a description of how it could be, but a spooky insight to where you're at, instruction on how to get to where you want to be.

The narration was of the perfect cadence and tone that allowed me to just ingest this fire hose of information. Just a really great job by both the author and performer. At some point I just gave up talking notes and timestamps having fully realized that I'd be listening to this again.

Just OK

This book fails to inspire but gets the basic message across. I find the reader rather boring and uninspiring. DevOps is friggin exciting and powerful!! That fact is lost on this book.

great first chapter, but then it got weak

I really enjoyed the early chapter on batch sizes, but the rest didn't contribute much with actual advice that gets me closer to doing microservices.
