Publisher's summary

Do you, in fear of hurting feelings, restrain from giving criticism? In Don't Take It Personally, renowned drama critic Susan Granger presents an effective strategy for both accepting and giving criticism. Granger strips away the negatives associated with criticism and turns them into something constructive and powerful. Through a series of concrete examples and practical exercises, learn how slight changes of attitude and behavior can help us reap enormous benefits. By using her techniques of "criticizing without destroying" and "specificity rather than generalizations," we can communicate more effectively and powerfully, and ultimately conquer criticism.

Meh

If you have any common sense this book will not be much of a revelation to you.

The most common of common sense

The observations contained in this title were mostly outdated, stereotypical, and childish. The only help offered is in reminding the reader what he/she almost definitely already knows. The "pendulum technique" for deciding whether to accept criticism or not is rather similar to using a magic 8 ball, only with flawed logic to pass it off as being scientific. Despite being so short I still felt this title was a waste of time.

Utterly worthless

Complete waste of time. A lot of nonsense acronyms, mostly for not being too critical. Don't wasteyour time.

Good advice from a great speaker

Has good advice on handling criticism by others and on giving it yourself. Some of the topics she covers (the pendulum--which is interesting but unenlightening) are a little hokie, but that's as bad as it gets. The quality wasn't great (format 2); listening on a CD was semi-painful, but on the computer it sounded fine. She's a great speaker, though, so that makes it much easier to listen to. Recommended if you're looking for advice (albeit not a ton--only 40 minutes) on how to handle criticism.
