About this listen

Dexter Yates loves his fun, carefree London life; he has money, looks, and girlfriends galore. But everything changes overnight when his sister dies, leaving him in charge of her eight-month-old daughter Delphi. How is he ever going to cope? Comic-strip artist Molly Hayes lives in the beautiful Cotswold village of Briarwood. When it comes to relationships, she has a history of choosing all the wrong men. Leaving the city behind, Dex moves to Briarwood - a much better place to work on his parenting skills - and he and Molly become neighbors. There's an undeniable connection between them. But if Dexter's going to adapt, he first has a lot to learn about Molly, about other people's secrets...and about himself.

Don't want to miss a thing

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how it was based in a small village and you followed a few different stories.

Any additional comments?

This is a lovely story. Once I started, I couldn't stop listening. There were a few twists and turns that I didn't see coming in the story. All in all, another fab Jill Mansell book

Cute story

The story was sweet and somewhat predictable but enjoyable. It contains language that I was not expecting. Quite disappointed in that as it was totally unnecessary.

great story, narrator issue

What aspect of Alison Larkin’s performance would you have changed?

I disliked the high-pitched imitation of the baby noises, very irritating. Other than that...its good.

Baby voice

Any additional comments?

The story line was pretty good but the narrator acting like the baby is awful! Hopefully on future readings she won't do those baby noises.

Sweet story

I liked the story and the narrator although I was surprised by the extremely loud “baby sounds” for one of the characters and screams that she chose to do. They were overly loud and unexpected.

Such a Heartwarming Quirky Little Story

I love this book. The characters, the narrator, the story, all of it. Over the past few years, I’ve relistened to it 5 times.

Enjoyable but why has it been Americanised?

I enjoyed both the performance and the story but what really spoiled this for me was the way in which the book has been Americanised. It's written by an English author and set in a very English town and read by an English narrator so why on earth do the characters talk about 'diapers', 'vacation' and 'highways'. Did this really need to be changed? It really spoiled my enjoyment of the story.

Thoroughly enjoyable chick lit

This book was very typical Jill Mansell. I like that there are multiple story lines going on, each with interesting characters. The narration was solid (though not outstanding), though I do agree with another reviewer that her voice for the baby Delphi was quite annoying. If you like British chick lit, I'd recommend it.

Predictably wonderful, wonderfully predictable

Five stars overall may be a bit excessive but she made me happy for hours. A well populated story with many characters. She makes me laugh. She makes me happy.
