How intriguing!

After about three years of listening to mysteries, I kept waiting for someone to be murdered. I was delightfully surprised!

A cheaters paradise...

So basically, it's a cheaper, more confusing version of Peyton Place ... but much funnier. Also the environment is a bit outdated... not sure if the reality of today's social views could support those found in this book.

Apparently, this town clearly does not know the meaning of fidelity. While one affair per story may add some depth to the storyline, but not an entire town of unfaithful loose women and misogynistic louts. Although there are some very funny moments and witty dialog, the entire premise of everyone lusting after someone who isn't their partner is rather off-putting.

Underneath the sexually charged environment running rampant in the town of Sissly, there are a couple of mysteries brewing. This makes the plot a bit more interesting. However, there is an arsenal of players to keep track of. Therefore, the multitude of relationships discussed is head spinning. Sadly, the reunioned main love interest gets very little development and becomes an afterthought to the chaos of every other person's life in this and surrounding towns. Honestly, it's a shame the author didn't hold back some of the material about other people to create multiple books, turning it into a series. Instead, it's all crammed into this lengthy tale.

The books saving grace, aside from the humor as I previously mentioned, is the terrific narration.

Too many people….

Hard to keep track of everyone and all their many relationships.
Funny in places. Quirky and amusing. Perhaps too long.

I really enjoyed this story.

There was a lot going on with numerous characters and their own special situations and several romances that kept it interesting all the way to the end.

Bogged down a bit

I skipped a chapter or 2 in the middle that focused on the teenage son. He just wasn’t an interesting character and it slowed down the rest of the story.
