About this listen

Kate, born to abusive, drug addicted parents, identifies an inner God voice when she is very young. This voice, and the support of her grandmother, helps her overcome her circumstances instead of falling victim to them. However, as she grows up she finds that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, and she discovers that she is an addict herself. Deciding not to go down the path her parents went, she rises above her circumstances again and chooses the path of recovery. Now eight years sober she shares how faith helped her continue to take positive action and avoid victimization every step of the way.

"Impossible to put down. Both funny and yet often terrifying, this is a raw, unflinching account of a chaotic and abusive childhood overcome by inner strength and an enduring sense of humor."

I absolutely loved it! This book caught my attention from the very beginning and held it throughout the entire book. The narration was outstanding and gave the story that extra flair! My heart literally breaks for the innocent children and I am overjoyed when they succeed in spite of their negligence. The narration was outstanding and kept me entertained! The author did an amazing job with her story! I am in awe of this author! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good Story

I really enjoyed this book. Sad as it was, it was a very good listen about two horribly addicted parents who never changed. The abuse the Author suffered was sickening.
I wish the Author went with a narrator instead of using her own voice. She was very Valley girl Kardashian like and I feel it took a bit away from the story.

Good book, Valley girl narration

Great narration by Russell. A painful journey told by an amazing survivor. Russell's truthful story never attempts to make her look better than she was. She carefully details the patterns of dysfunction so nakedly that the listener cannot help but to feel the anguish, fear, and sometimes comedy in a very viserral way.

A powerful story of addiction, abuse, and survival

This story is heartbreaking. However, it is very well written in terms of the timeline. Not jumping back and forth. So sad what addiction can do to one. Congrats to Kate for realizing that she did have an addiction, getting help and getting clean. I hope you continue to better yourself everyday.

Sad, but brings into reality what some kids really do go through.

A gripping retelling of abuse, addiction, and the impact on children. Sadly, this will be deeply familiar to many. It is comforting to know one is not alone and hearing the stories of others can help the healing process. Well written and narrated.

Excellent

As someone who grew up in an abusive home wanting to be a famous actress this resonated with me. Kate provides such an amazing view of her struggles and her strength in dealing with her childhood.

I laughed, related, and cried at many parts of this book. I felt like I was sitting and talking with Kate. Love this book.
