About this listen

Bradley Anderson, known as Dr. Sadist, is a master of torture and a veteran director of snuff films at Deep Red Pictures - a studio owned by a sadistic entrepreneur, Mr. Snuff. He is paid handsomely for his work, he owns an expensive, secluded home, and he lives with a loving family. The problem? He loves his family, and he can’t stop his once-buried conscience from reawakening.

When he hesitates to murder a group of trespassing teenagers at Deep Red Pictures, Bradley is targeted by his employer and his employees. He is attacked in the most brutal way possible, and his life is destroyed. But he survives. And he’s ready to exact his revenge.

From the author of Mr. Snuff and Grandfather’s House, Jon Athan brings you into a criminal underworld full of opportunity, lust, and extreme violence. Are you ready to star in your own movie?

Killing is my business

I was expecting this story to be vile and soul crushing but I didn’t expect myself to enjoy it. Instead of normal torture porn, which I dreaded, this was torture porn with character. Like if you took death wish and smashed it with hostel. It is surprisingly good. The graphic displays of violence are pretty standard. It’s not paragraphs of grotesque torture but enough to make it pretty vile and extreme. Surprisingly had a good character interaction with “doc” and the people he cared about. The descriptions were rather vivid and helped complete the characters profile. The other characters though were not that well flesh out and you couldn’t really latch on to any of the others. The guy getting off the call was the closest thing to a human with a life outside of the industry. I think a bit more of a development with Benny’s relationship with doc could have been strengthened a bit more so that we could really feel that impact when Benny snitches on him. Was fearing Jon’s book but after reading this one pretty excited to check out more.

Not a bad extreme tale...

I was unaware that it was book 3 of 4 in the Snuff Network series and it ended with a pretty big cliffhanger that I was not expecting. I’m not sure how I felt about the 10 minute author commercial after the story either. I guess it’s no different than a book that has a ton of excerpts from other works, but since there was time remaining on the audiobook I figured it would get wrapped up somehow and then it was over and the commercial started. *End whiny reader rant.*

Anyway, the story wasn’t bad. It was a bit elementary in spots and predictable in others. It appeared to be extreme just for the sake of extreme and not really a story or character driven piece. (Not that I was really expecting that.) It was entertaining enough, however, and good for what it was. I really wanted to like it more. The narration was ok, as well, but may have been hurt by some of the choppy dialog and action. 2.5 Stars rounded up...

Dr Sadist

If you like gruesome sadistic characters, this book is for you. Bradley Anderson fits that bill perfectly. Jon Athan is a master of his craft. I really enjoy his books. Keeps you on your toes and listening to the end wondering what would happen next. Harry Roger Williams did a good job with the narration. Only for the right audience... and I loved it!!

Since discovering this author, I've been madly buying up all that I can!!! I'm pretty jaded, and love revenge/torture themed books. The bloodier the better!

Not as extreme as I’d hoped

It’s a good book I was hoping for a little more “extreme” it has some shock value but seems light to me the gore doesn’t have much depth and the main character gets a little to soft

Good nasty book

Does what it says on the label. But Dr. Sadist isn't all bad, no no no. This one really plumbs the depths of human behaviour.

FYI it does end on a cliffhanger

The book was definitely what I was expecting it to be, and there are some of the most unhinged descriptions of genitalia torture that I've heard. Essentially it's a revenge story, they crossed the wrong man, and he's going to make everyone pay. There isn't much in the way of backstory to the characters, like how he become Dr. Sadist, you get some details of his past, but nothing unnecessary like what his childhood was like, it's just what you need to know, so the story can move at a brisk pace with enough going on between scenes of extreme violence. It's well written, but more about lean meat and not serving up much extra. The only thing is this is part of a connected series of 4 novels, each an individual story with a connection to the man at the top Mr. Snuff. The 4th book is the conclusion to all these stories, but this is the only book on Audible. That being said, the Kindle versions were pretty cheap, I think I got the bundle for under $15 and a discount on this audiobook. But just keep on mind, you won't get the full story here, it'll leave you wanting to buy the other novels to get the full picture.

Sadistically Good!

I found this book much more entertaining than I thought I initially would. Does that make me sadistic? This book by far has the most gruesome and messed up characters that I have ever read about. Bradley is a horrible peraon who does horrible things to people for money. Year somehow you get lost while he is running from the men he worked with and forget that he is still a bad person. Lesser of Evils I guess. He doesn't want to kill children and that's what pushes him to the edge.

I can't wait to read more from this author. I was hooked once I started listening and couldnt stop till it was over. I highly recommend this book , especially if you are looking for something in a different mind of genre. Just know that it is graphic!
