A terrifying classic.

Of all the versions of this book here on audible, I found this one to be my perfect listen, because the narration is evenly paced, and the book is in journal form, which gives the listener a first person account unlike any other book that I have listened to that was written during the publication date. The plot is exactly what you would want in a straight up horror novel. A man is trapped in a vampire's castle, while Dracula is planning on snacking on London. I had a cassette version years ago that was of course an abridgment, but it never came close to this version. You can't simply condense a novel like this in just three hours.

Outstanding performance

The story is old and well know. However this performance was a new way to enjoy the book!

Perfect actor for the parts

What did you like best about this story?

The story telling through letters and diary entries allowed the reader to experience the confusion of the character by being in their head and not just by observance. I thought the the character's denial of old world superstitions because of their modern day living rang true and added to the suspense.

Which scene was your favorite?

I really enjoyed the beginning of the book where the reader is slowly taking a ride with the character into the heart of darkness.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was a shipwreck by a Russian vessel that fit within the story much like folklore yet it was a real scene within the story. It worked as its own vignette and was very engaging and spooky.

Any additional comments?

I have a tendency to enjoy one voice reading all parts. This actor did not stereotype the female voice by talking squeaky or shrill. All parts were thoughtfully read and the American voice was comically appropriate. I would definately listen to this actor read again
