About this listen

A known serial killer is once again taking lives in Chicago. Bodies drained of blood are being strewn across the city.

For former Tampa homicide sergeant, Hank Rawlings, tracking down the man responsible for the killings becomes his first assignment at his new position, agent in the FBI's homicide division of the serial crimes unit.

Almost before the ink dries on the new job's acceptance papers, Hank finds himself in Chicago, knee-deep in an investigation with a mounting body count.

While every lead brings him and his partner closer to the killer, the one that puts them directly in front of him threatens them most.

CREEPY AND REALISTIC

Good story, liked the partner relationship. The killer was creepy and realistic. It could have been longer or differently paced maybe? not sure, but something was missing.

Bland FBI procedural

Not too bad if you have time to kill and nothing better at hand. It’s the kind of mystery where you know who the bad guy is but not how he’s going to be caught. Not my favorite kind. And the characters were all flat—no character development. The FBI agents were all good at their jobs and the villain was heinous. On this plus side, there was no gore, no gratuitous f-bombing, and the end was exciting. Oh, and there was no sex—I’m not sure whether that’s a plus or a minus. In conclusion, this was passable as a freebie but I won’t be spending a credit for the next in the series.

Fast (read) listen

The author told a gruesome tell without the gruesome details. Clean language was used.

Great Story

Really great story and very well narrated.
I usually listen to these books while driving long trips and it's surprising how quickly the journey goes by and how relaxed I am on arrival.

I really recommend this book! I will be buying more!!

AWESOME FIRST BOOK IN A NEW SERIES

Drain Book 1 in the Agent Hank Rawlings, FBI Thriller Series, begins differently than most of the novels about serial killers that I’ve ever read. Different in that we know from the very beginning who the serial killer is. That unique approach taken by Reinhard is what hooked me on this story. What kept me reading was my need to see how newly minted Special Agent Hank Rawling and his partner, Beth Harper, would discover who the killer was. The way this story ends will leave you breathless. If you only read one thriller this year, it has to be Drained.

Super Thriller - O wanted more!!

Have you listened to any of Todd McLaren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have never heard anything Todd McLaren has narrated before but would definitely listen to and recommend him as a narrator. I thought he did a great job.

Any additional comments?

This book reminds me very much of the Owen Laukkanen books (The Professionals, The Stolen Ones & more).
The protagonist in this book Hank Rawlings and his partner are following the trail of a serial killer who drains the blood from his victims and leaves their bodies in not too hidden places around the city. This you can read in the book description. What you can't read in the synopsis is the really great bantering that goes on between the partners. You also won't get the hysterical control his wife has over the mundane things in his life. Things like picking out what car they buy or what clothes he's going to wear - like a pink tie so he will stand out and be noticed but is considering letting him pick out his own clothes to see how he does!Meanwhile you find out early on who the killer is but obviously the thrill is in the chase.
I really really liked this book and hope that this is just the beginning of a new series.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good book, ok narration

I enjoyed the book but was a bit disappointed by Todd McLaren’s narrative performance. His narrative of the different male characters was very good but when it came to the female characters his narrative of female voices was distracting from the story, at least for myself.
