About this listen

Clive Cussler meets Dale Brown.

“Superb!” (Booklist, starred review)

“The best military thriller I’ve read in a very long time. Love the female characters.” (Sheldon McArthur, founder of The Mystery Bookstore, LA)

A US Air Force C-130 transport plane, bearing top secret cargo, lies shattered in the Nevada desert at Groom Lake.

China’s prototype fifth-generation jet fighter goes missing.

Far above, a US supersonic stealth drone flies a very lethal black op.

The CIA, the US military command, and the secretive National Reconnaissance Office are all locked in a battle for control of the nation’s future.

Miranda Chase, the National Transportation Safety Board’s air-crash savant, lands in the center of the gathering maelstrom.

Burdened with a new team and a polarizing personality, she must connect the pieces to stay alive. And she must do it before the wreckage of her past crashes down upon her and destroys US-China relations forever.

This is my first experience reading a book by M. L. Buchman. The book is well written and mostly believable. The pace is fast and the plot twists and turns. I was not sure what the story was going to be like. Our protagonist works for the National Transportation Safety Bureau and investigates plane crashes. With all the technology and action, it reminds me of a Tom Clancy or Clive Cussler book. I like to read books that have a strong female lead and between Miranda and Holly certainly qualify. Miranda focused and brilliant, and Holly is an ex-SAS soldier from Australia, and an expert in all types of self- defense as well as an airplane structural engineer. The book is hard to put down and makes a good get-away-from-it -all book.

The book is ten hours and twenty-eight minutes. M. L. Buchman does a good job narrating his own book.

How to examine a plane crash

Drone really captured my attention with the military’s way of handling secrets and secrecy in general. The characters on the NTSB team are unique to say the very least. All poses certain characteristics that hold up the other members.

Unexpected !

not what i expected from the description. looked at other books by author about half way through and saw a lot of covers with large men bare chested. That said i didnt suck.

Buchman gives you a great rollercoaster of adventures, narrow escapes, fun comraderie, mystery (solved by end of book, no cliff hangers), a little romance, and a bit of futuristic military weaponry. Enjoyed the story and the narrating by the author! Thank you M.L. Buchman! Will be reading this one again and looking forward to the next!

Adventure, suspense, and a futuristic mystery

honestly sounds like a computer voice from 1990. Stopped 10 minutes in to the book.

Narration is robotic and impossible to listen to

I could only make it an hour into this book. No less than 4-5 cringy, graphically detailed sexual (scenes) that aren't needed to develop the characters or any other purpose I could determine.

I'm not even a prude about sex being in books, It's just jarring when in the middle of the story line he goes off on a (yet another) tangent about describing in detail the history of the characters sexual acts. Too much, I returned it.

Softcore porn disguised as a techno thriller.

Worst narration I have heard from the several hundred audio books I purchased. Stopped listening 2 minutes into the book because of the narrator’s extremely monotone voice.
