About this listen

Ripped straight from the headlines!

A country in chaos. A government obsessed with power. A series of coordinated attacks on the largest cities in America.

Bradley Adams, a former Army veteran, and prepper, is swept up in a web of lies following a politically motivated work place shooting. When martial law is declared, his life descends into a series of nightmares from which there may be no escape. This is the story of a man dedicated to defending his family, his home, and his country.

What made the experience of listening to Drums of War the most enjoyable?

Really enjoyed the fact that this book feels like what's going on in the country right now! Liked the interjections of news people giving reports and updates which again really sounded like what we are hearing today. Also liked the fast pace of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that you think things are happening for one reason but they are really part of a bigger plot behind the scenes. Can't wait for next book....oh and people die that you don't' expect to die.

What does Todd Menesses bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nice pacing, great with differentiating the voices and characters....easy to follow.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Wanted to but I usually listen while on my long train commute.

Any additional comments?

This one is worth a credit, no matter which side of the political fence you are on but remember it's only fiction....right?

Wow straight out of the headlines!

Good story - probably better read than listened to. While the story teller did well with most characters, his “woman” voice felt like forks being jabbed into my ears.

Pretty good story

Story was great, the narrator read well, but his voices were horrendous. Want to listen to the next book, but I'll probably pass, as I don't think I can handle the cartoon character voices again.

well...

I wish there was more than one voice. Not one person narrated the women’s voices

I can't believe I listened to the whole thing.

Narrator was terrible. While his non-character reading was okay, his character voicing "attempts" were an insult to the author. Inconsistent variations, indistinct or completely different voices for characters from line to line, and he made the main character sound like a stereotypical Neanderthal.

The story was fair, if you look past gaping holes and the polarized view of the author, and his blatant opinion of current events.

In the end, I will not be getting any more books in this series.

Meh

Narrator lead character voice made him sound like an idiot. All female voices were annoying and pretty much every impression made the character sound like they were not too smart.

Narrator made it hard to enjoy.

The author needs to research his material; especially the National Guard and military procedures. Also needs to better understand the concealed carry community and use the current lingo.

The narrator also needs to research into the correct pronunciation of terms.

Do some research

The story is based on a great premise, however, like most authors, he needs to do more research on how the military works. He should have a better understanding on how, in this case the Army and the Army National Guard operates, is organized (the army is NOT organized around the regiment), and the professional terminology those organizations use. It is obvious he used Wikipedia when researching the Army and Army NG.
The narration was awful. Just awful. The attempt to use feminine voices for the female characters was nerve racking. It was like nails on a blackboard. Same with the male voices. I returned the title.

Story is …OK, narrator is not good
