About this listen

This program includes a bonus conversation between Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, and Scott Brick.

A legend begins in Dune: The Duke of Caladan, first in The Caladan Trilogy by New York Times best-selling authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Leto Atreides, Duke of Caladan and father of the Muad’Dib. While all know of his fall and the rise of his son, little is known about the quiet ruler of Caladan and his partner Jessica. Or how a Duke of an inconsequential planet earned an emperor’s favor, the ire of House Harkonnen, and set himself on a collision course with his own death. This is the story.

Through patience and loyalty, Leto serves the Golden Lion Throne. Where others scheme, the Duke of Caladan acts. But Leto’s powerful enemies are starting to feel that he is rising beyond his station, and House Atreides rises too high. With unseen enemies circling, Leto must decide if the twin burdens of duty and honor are worth the price of his life, family, and love.

A Macmillan Audio production from Tor Books

"The audio version is an easy listen. The quick, action packed chapters are well performed, and as the disparate story lines begin to come together it's hard to press pause. Narrator Scott Brick's deep and interesting voice adds more pull to the quieter parts of the story.... All in all, a fun book and a great performance." (Booklist)

"Characters are imbued with heroic voices, delivering colorful cadences that catch the ear. Scenes are masterfully undergirded by mounting tension and sinister manipulation...[narrator Scott] Brick turns in a rewarding performance." (AudioFile Magazine)

The new Dune movie is based on the classic sci fi novel, the first book in an extensive series launched by author Frank Herbert and kept going by writers who took up the helm after his death. The trailer for the upcoming film was released last fall, and since then, speculation and excitement have been swirling around the movie. At three minutes long, the trailer itself is a beautiful masterpiece, and it teases many of the important characters and aspects from the story. This post will give you a basic understanding of the book, its history, and everything you need to know about Dune to get you ready for the movie!

It's short and doesn't get good til the end. Then a cliff hanger. Not fair really.

There is no way for me to write this without spoilers so I will keep this brief. Buy the book. It has a slow burn. But once it gets good you will be yelling at your device for hours.... Buy the book!!!

That was mean!!!!!

I love every moment we get to spend in this universe. Been a while since I burned through a novel this quickly but I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one.

I’ve read just about all of Herbert & Anderson’s Dune books and this trilogy leads up to the moments before the epic Dune. As new films revive the love for these books, this book opens up so much more intrigue for the original text. So much fun!

Best book of the trilogy!

This series never disappoints. If your love long detailed story’s with great back stories you’ll love this. This series is great always on the edge, of your seat. It’s like if star wars and game of thrones had a love child this would be the series even though it’s started way before they were ever written.

Great story

I really liked the book, and the way it expands the Dune Universe. Duke Leto Atreides is one of my favourite characters throughout the series. I eagerly await for the next to book. The performance of the reader however was somewhat off. In some places it sounded as if it had been recorded in patches that where clumsily brought together. Resulting in some frases and paragraphs sounding very different in quality to the rest of the audiobook.

Loved the story, the performance not so much.

The gift that keeps giving. This is the longest series I've read to date. It never gets old or repetitive. Love it.

Great book. Great series. Great Narrator.
