Publisher's summary

It’s time to put yourself first. Your life depends on it.

You do not need to be diagnosed with cancer, like Heather Chauvin did, to realize motherhood doesn’t need to suck the life out of you. In fact, the more alive you feel, the less exhausted, irritable, and frustrated you’ll be.

Heather was once like you. A so-called successful working mother of three, juggling a growing career, parenting, and family life - she looked like the very model of success. But inside, she was dying. Literally.

One year after the birth of her youngest son, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer. In the blink of an eye, she saw just how far away she was from living a life she actually wanted. She had spent her entire adult life trying - and dying - to be a good mother. As she battled through months of chemotherapy, illness, and recovery, she realized something: It was time to start living. Not for others - but for herself.

In Dying to Be a Good Mother, Heather - now a TEDx speaker, host of the Mom Is In Control podcast and personal development coach - takes you through her journey with honesty, humor, and strength. She holds sacred space for you to cry, yell, scream, and dig deep within your soul to return home to your true self. Part memoir and part personal development guide, you’ll learn how to put yourself first and find the happy you deserve.

You might resist this journey. But it’s time to stop using motherhood as an excuse not to take care of yourself, and give yourself permission to create space for what you truly want. It’s time to stop dying to be a good mother, and start living the life you deserve.

Stuff reading

A decent book with an important message and practical steps to be taken. Her story is inspiring and engaging even if it jumps around a bit as far as timeline progression goes. Her reading however, is not engaging. It is stiff and boring and awkward. Still we can learn a lot from this resilient entrepreneur.

It just had to have HER voice

As soon as I heard the announcement that Heather was going to have an audio version of her book - I was like ‘yes, then I must digest the information that way’ rather than just reading it myself. The way she reads it is soothing, inspiring and genuine. She makes great references to the website where you can get some of the longer reference materials, etcetera to help through the personal challenge sections.

A must read for any mom!!!

A must read for all moms! she is vulnerable and expresses the real real not a bunch of fake fillers. It makes you get real with yourself and do the work with her workbook and journal entry ideas. loveeee her and her story!

Incredible

I do wish I had read it instead, I didn’t realize the workbook included but regardless it was still
Laid out in such a way I could use the online version available. Heathers story is profound. Her book overall I would say helped me by not feeling so alone. There were so many times I felt she was speaking the words from my own soul. That’s when you know it’s a winner. Thanks Heather. To be continued

Better to be read than listened to.

Not everyone has the gift of engaging narration. The author's words fell flat for me with such a measured reading which was likely an effort to annunciate and speak clearly for a quality recording. I wish someone had told her to just read her own story from the heart. I'm sure this title would be FAR more enjoyable in a non-auditory format, i.e. read it yourself, you'll probably get more out of it, and you can take notes. 👍🏼
