The lights are out for good....

The Riley family is preparing to start a new life as owners of the River Rock Hotel in Galena, IL, when the lights go out and the world plunges into chaos. Matthew Riley wants to believe that people will come together to overcome the challenge, but as panic sets in after the massive EMP event, he has to face the harsh truth that the only people he can trust are his family.

His ailing father, David, has the skills the Riley family needs to survive in the dark new world, but with no medication for his heart condition on hand, his health is failing. Matthew’s wife, Kathleen, doesn’t share his optimism, but she will do what it takes to keep the family together and defend the hotel from the violent survivors who want to take it for their own.

As resources grow scarcer, family is the only bond that can be counted on. But those bonds are strained and frayed as the tensions of the new world begin to pull them apart. In a broken civilization, the only way to survive is strength in numbers. How can one family and their allies survive when the world has turned upside down?

The book needs a weapon advisor

Good story but could have paid more attention to details. They needed to get a weapons person advising during the book.

Needs a better narrator but good story

It was worth the credit and lasted a while but didn't keep me on the edge.

Learn about weapons

Overall, the story line is interesting. However, the author knows little about pistols or at least she knows little about Glocks. Glocks do have a safety but the safety is the trigger.

Author needs a dictionary.

Prison and jail are not the same ang the author should do more research on both. Also if the author is going to try to include details about guns, maybe she should research them, actually shoot them.

EMP Catastrophe

Overall, this is a pretty solid disaster survival series, though it does nothing groundbreaking. I enjoyed the books, and I appreciated the growth that was shown in many of the character arcs. That being said, I was very irritated at the central character because he showed no appreciable growth throughout all three books and continued to make similar poor decisions over and over and over. The author did manage to gather most of the loose ends and provided a satisfying conclusion to the series.

Feeds the need!

Good listen, was able to feel a connection to the characters but they drove me a little nuts either way, except for David. Definitely fed my nonstop need for survival post apocalypse books. Performed very well

Pretty unimpressive

I am shocked at how the characters in this series are completely unable to deal with the world after TSHTF. It’s hard to even listen at times. I would not have purchased this series had I known.

Uniquely Interesting

To be candid, I had to quit listening to this at about chapter four or five of the first book. I got very frustrated with the dialog exchanges, which seemed…unpolished, or contrived. The conversations were grating to my previous expectations. I did return later and I finished the series. I’m glad I did finish, as I ultimately enjoyed the story. What I find incredulous is how such a stupid character could be written, especially as the main focus of the story. Matt lives his entire existence, going from one assumption to another. He jumps to conclusions at every possible opportunity…what an idiot!! Maybe there really are people in the world as stupid as Matt Riley, but, they wouldn’t really last very long. I just shut down that part of my brain, for a while.
That being said, I liked the rest of the characters, even if some of the dialogue was a bit silly. Overall, the story was well worth listening to. The narration helped to add to the story, and for the most part was well done.
