It will keep you entertained! The author did an amazing job with the character builds and plot! This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more of her books! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

An exciting story that grabs you from the start!

I really enjoyed the story and the exciting way the characters are presented by the wonderful narrator. T.L. Bailey has a gift of describing the scenes and settings and transporting you back to early times in America where pirates, witches and all sorts of unsavory characters roamed the streets of Jamestown. Throw in some ancient magic and those who can wield it and it makes for an exiting listen as the story unfolds. I can’t wait to start the next installment!

I felt like I was there...

Eve of Darkness is a well written book...book 1 of a series. I don’t usually gravitate to fantasy books but this one converted me! I found myself caught up in the characters with a wide range of emotions. The mystery of what will happen next kept me coming back for more. I read the book and listened to it on Audible. Loved them both! Cant wait to start the next book. You have to read this book!

Entertaining Story

Eve of Darkness is the first book in The Dark Age Chronicles series of dark fantasy novels by award-winning author T. L. Bailey. Its action follows an ancient war between the forces of Good and Evil fought by remarkable characters on both sides. The first chapter takes place in 1431's Romania where some of the main characters are faced with a fierce battle, then the plot moves to 1717 Virginia, USA. Here, we will meet Eve, a girl destined to save the World, but until she can do that, she must face formidable foes and seemingly daunting obstacles.

I liked the author's writing style, the characters' arcs, the descriptions and the dark atmosphere that permeates throughout Eve of Darkness and I'm curious to find out what's next for Eve and her unlikely allies.

The audiobook version of Eve of Darkness is narrated by Wesley Bruf. He has a very interesting approach to this performance. He acts much more than he reads, infusing the story with passion, but he can't deliver consistent character voices. I'm sure that Mr. Bruf did his best and had only good intentions, but I prefer a much more balanced and immersive narrative experience.

I admit that some other listener might enjoy Wesley Bruf as a narrator and what I suggest is that if you are interested in this story, give a listen to the sample here. If you like it, go ahead and purchase the audiobook.

Narration aside, I consider Eve of Darkness a good first novel in a series that could become very interesting in the long run. If you like the dark fantasy genre, Eve's adventures might be just right up your alley.

Such a great read

I am an audiobook geek and love a good story/epic voice acting. This 15hr long action packed dark fantasy-fiction by TL Bailey had me engaged and running the gamut emotionally. I am excited to read more of her work.

As for narration...considering this is Wesley Bruff’s first audiobook narration I am honestly blown away. He juggled 15-20 characters throughout the book, giving them each their own unique personality is truly impressive. Cannot wait to hear him narrate the rest of the series.

The cliffhanger is a real doozie on this one #TeamLycaon

This is an amazing experience!!! The author has created an amazing story that is full of action humor and terror. The characters are beautifully written and are very easy to fall in love with. And the narrator has done an excellent job of setting the tone and emotion of every scene. If this isn’t a show on Netflix in 3 years I’ll be surprised. Definitely recommend to anyone who is interested in fantasy/horror

Wesley Bruff does an amazing job!

This story is good but the way Wesley brings the characters to life is amazing! He seriously has done an amazing production job with this story that I am excited to see what else he does in the future. The added effects he puts into the story really bring you into the moment - weather it be hearing a voice directly in your mind, listening to a conversation in a cave, or hearing a fearsome gnarly character speak - all of it was really top notch! I honestly wish he did not do most of the book in his raspy voice just because of the quality of everything else - i feel like it at times just was too slow of a pace for the overall story.

The overall book was good if you like this time period. I compared this book to a couple of other books that are similar that I have read/listened to and that is why I rated it the way I did. It does a good job with the story but it is nothing that was truly fantastic - other than the narration.

A note about the audio sample of this book - I feel like it is a misrepresentation of what the whole book is going to be about. The sample made me think that the book would have a lot of background effects like growls or whatever - but that only accounted for maybe 2% of the book. Just be aware that it is very rare that you hear any background effects. With this in mind though, Wesley Bruff does do some very unique voice alterations that really add to the story and make it a great listen!

“What a great book.” –Literary Titan

The Dark Age Chronicles: Eve of Darkness, by T.L. Bailey and performed by Wesley Bruff, has all the darkness professed in its title. The title character, Eve, lives a life so full of turmoil and fear it’s a true miracle she has the strength to face each day. Her grandfather’s evil nature is incredibly difficult to imagine, and it has created a magnificent strength in Eve that rivals that of any superhero. Her gift makes her a liability, but the more she is feared and the more she is pursued, the more invincible she becomes. Bailey’s choice to have Eve be a young nineteen-year-old girl is a fantastic one. These are formative years, and the horrors Eve is forced to endure would make anyone at this age crumble and give up on life.

The narration by Wesley Bruff is absolutely mesmerizing. Straight out of the gate, readers will appreciate the tone with which he delivers the story, the change of accent, and modulation. A dark and horrifying story calls for a performance that can communicate the atrocities effectively, and Bruff does that tenfold. His narration makes me forget who and where I am–honestly a stunning performance.

Readers who enjoy fantasy will find Eve’s plight enthralling. Her journey is one of resilience and determination, and her story is one readers won’t want to put down. I highly recommend Wesley Bruff’s narration, as well. It is not often you find an audio book so full of rich visuals. The Dark Age Chronicles: Eve of Darkness, the audio book, is not to be missed.
