Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Donna Grant "skillfully melds history and legend" (RT Book Reviews) in a new series - The Kindred.

To live in the light, they hunt in the dark.

Unparalleled in beauty and daring, Leoma has been raised with a single-minded focus-to wipe out corrupt witches. But when her new target leads her to a discovery that unveils a graver plan from the Coven, she doesn't hesitate to follow.

Yet, she's not the only one on the hunt. And the sexy, infuriating man who crosses her path could prove to be a distraction - something she's never encountered before.

Honor and family mean everything to Braith. When his life is turned upside down by the murder of his ward and heir without cause or reason, he has no choice but to turn to vengeance. Until a stunning, dangerous woman continues to thwart his efforts at every turn. Now, he must battle not only his need for revenge but his desire for the female, as well.

Very good book.

I really enjoyed this book. This is my first time reading the Kindred series and so far it is really good. Leoma has been raised as a Witch Hunter. She is an amazing fighter and is a very skilled swordswoman. On one of her trips she meets a man named Braithe. Braithe was a Knight and is now an Earl. He is hunting down the witch that killed his ward. As he is tracking the witch he sees another women following her. They soon find out they are on the same side and join together to go after the witches. They make a great team and of course fall in love. This is the 1st full length book in the series and I can't wait to read book #2. Donna Grant is one of my absolute favorite authors. All of her books are amazing.

Great accent

The female narrator does great with the accents and voices!
Leoma and Braith meet because they are both after the same witch. The witch kills people. She killed Leoma's best friend and also killed Braith's ward and heir.
Now that they joined forces to exact their revenge they discover another plot. Braith is wanted by the coven's elder witches council for something.
The journey to that discovery is filled with betrayals of old friends as well as new found friends and allies.
The story was interesting but it took me a little bit to get into it. I did not read the prequel story. That may have helped with my interest at the beginning.
Give this series try if you enjoy strong heroines and combating evil witch covens.

Great new world

I am a big fan of anything by Doona Grant, and this series is no exception. It did a great job of building a new world and creating a lot of new characters that I can’t wait to find out what happens with. Leoma and Braith are a amazing couple. Leo a is a strong woman who knows her mind and heart and will fight for what she wants. Braith is a man ahead of his time. He doesn’t look down on women or think them week in anyway. Together they have explosive chemistry and a love that anyone would fight for. I really enjoyed their adventure. The side characters in the story were very intriguing as well. I can’t not wait to see what happens with Jarin, Armir and Malene And now I am off to read book 2.

Readers voice needs an upgrade. not enjoyable!

The readers voice is so screechy that I could barely concentrate on the story. I found myself continually registering to the last chapter over and over. I love Donna Grant but I believe I may return this book. I can't see myself listening to it over and over.

Not Bad

Not bad. I loved that the heroine was a trained fighter and very brave. I plan on reading the next book in the series.

It’s just ok

The book was ok. It started off with an odd set of characters. Although there was plenty of description and the female main character is a badass feminist, I didn’t fall in love with them as I usually do. I couldn’t picture them in my mind. I just kept feeling like the female character was a young naive little girl that’s good with a blade and the male was an old man waiting to get in her pants and oh yea avenge the death of his ward. It’s just ok.
