Publisher's summary

In this highly anticipated sequel from Edgar Award-winning "master of craft and narrative," Walter Mosley, Joe King Oliver is entangled in a dangerous case when he's asked to investigate whether a white nationalist is being unjustly set up (National Book Foundation).

When friend of the family and multi-billionaire Roger Ferris comes to Joe with an assignment, he’s got no choice but to accept, even if the case is a tough one to stomach. White nationalist Alfred Xavier Quiller has been accused of murder and the sale of sensitive information to the Russians. Ferris has reason to believe Quiller’s been set up and he needs King to see if the charges hold.

This linear assignment becomes a winding quest to uncover the extent of Quiller’s dealings, to understand Ferris’ skin in the game, and to get to the bottom of who is working for whom. Even with the help of bodyguard and mercenary Oliya Ruez—no regular girl Friday—the machine King’s up against proves relentless and unsparing. As King gets closer to exposing the truth, he and his loved ones barrel towards grave danger.

Mosley once again proves himself a "master of craft and narrative" (National Book Foundation) in this carefully plotted mystery that is at once a classic caper, a family saga and an examination of fealty, pride and how deep debt can go.

to be honest I could listen to Dion Graham narrate a scene of a wide open field where there are no plants animals or people.
Dion Graham is a full cast make no mistake about it.
the story is okay it's not Walter Mosley's best and I have almost every single book of Walter Mosley's except for his science fiction but I do on both sets of his detective novels and he is an amazing writer

Another Great

It was a very intricate story with a few players and several scenarios, and investigations going on at once. It also included some intimacy and romance, but was not overboard with it. It was really good.

King and His Tribe - Obsessed

Let me be the first to tell you…I love Joe King Oliver. Love. Every Man a King is a fabulous book. It gripped me and kept me and I finished it so quickly that I’m choosing to go back and reread it after two weeks. My favorite character in Joe’s life is his unlikely best friend Melquarth “Mel” Frost. The sound advice from the Devil reincarnate with a heart hidden from most of the world. This book dives deeper into the individual characters surrounding Joe and his ability and willingness to accept people for who they are, and where they are. I love it! In this book, Joe takes a case from his grandmothers boyfriend. This case endangers, everyone’s life. Or does it? I appreciate that there are multiple stories happening within a story. It is indicative of real life. We are all going through more than just one situation. We have multiple situations happening at any given moment in our lives. Walter Mosley does a fantastic job of putting you in King’s shoes and helping you see his life in multiple viewpoints. A great read!

A good story by my favorite author

It’s not his best, but it’s good enough… Thoroughly enjoyed it… King Oliver is an interesting and confounding man.
