About this listen

Two teens meet and bond when they are forced to visit their respective parents in neighboring apartments every other weekend. A sparkling, nuanced, and emotional listen for fans of Rainbow Rowell, Morgan Matson, and Julie Buxbaum.

Heartbreak brought them together...will love tear them apart?

Adam's life used to be awesome. Straight As, close friends, and a perfect home life. Then his oldest brother died. Now his mom cries constantly, he and his middle brother can't talk without fighting, and the father he always admired moved out when they needed him most.

Aspiring director Jolene's life is nothing like the movies she loves - not the happy ones anyway. With her divorced parents at each other's throats and using her as a pawn, no amount of mental reediting will give her the love she’s starving for.

Forced to spend every other weekend in the same apartment building, the boy who thinks forgiveness makes him weak and the girl who thinks love is for fools begin an unlikely friendship. The weekends he dreaded and she endured quickly become the best part of their lives. Have Jolene and Adam found something real? Or is their connection doomed from the start?

They’ll find out...every other weekend.

Surprising!

This is the first time I’ve left a review on Audible, but I have to! I originally added it randomly since it was included in my membership and I didn’t read the description, so I went into it blind. I’m so glad I did. This has got to be one of the most wholesome stories I’ve ever come across. I’m only 24, but Adam’s and Jo’s crushes and their feelings really brought me back to when I was 15/16. They were so sweet in everything they thought about each other. It was so heartwarming to see their story play out. I loved how each of their voices shone through in their respective sections. Jo being a film director and seeing the world in so much color yet being so cynical in contrast to Adam’s rather mundane (I’m not sure if that’s the right word I’m looking for) outlook on life but being so tender. It was amazing to see them grow together and they both got what they needed and deserved. I won’t speak on a certain part in the book too much, but I’m glad it was made a point to be addressed in a relatively short time. Ahh, this book was just so cute! And so emotional. It’s been a long while since a book made me cry, but this one did and it was mostly happy tears. I didn’t give the performance a 5 stars bc I felt for a majority of the book I preferred Taylor’s voice to Kirby’s, but he did eventually grow on me and when we were getting to the climax of the book I did get choked up on his scenes. All in all, I adored this book. I really can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer! And I will be listening to whatever else the voice actors are in!

Gritty

Every kind of abuse is represented int his book and overcome. A bit more serious than I anticipated but so sweet and innocent I couldn't put it down. Glad it was worth it and it had a great ending.

Amazing!

I absolutely loved this book. The story was amazing and I loved the way Adam and Jolenes relationship evolved. Seeing Jolene warm up to Adam with all of the trauma that she experienced and seeing her be able to feel like she can truly believe in herself was heart warming. Much love to this book and the author.

So much better than I anticipated!

I went into this story with a pretty open mind, knowing its not my usual genre of choice. Being a 30 year old mother of 4, I put away my YA Sarah Dessen-esque novels many moons ago. But this novel was recommended (and free), so I took the bait. I am so glad I did. The characters are filled out, flawed and broken but not cliche. Their flaws aren't annoying as many have the tendency of being, where by the halfway point you're ready to strangle one character or another. Any of the frustration I felt about a character was easily explained by their age, maturity level or situation.
The story had a good flow to it, never dragging or rushed, scenes were described in poetic detail without feeling too wordy. The narrators are excellent as well. I love this book, and would recommend it to anyone.

Slow, but a good story

It was slow, but a good story. I wouldn’t use a credit on it personally, but I enjoyed the free book

Listened to the entire book and glad I did.

Bittersweet story with great narration. The story kept me listening and I could easily imagine the scenes and imagine the development of the relationship between characters. Enjoyed the time spent listening to this audio book.
