Publisher's summary

Cruz, Sailor, Emmett, and the gang are on their way to Africa when Nebula misses their intended target and someone close to Cruz ends up on the brink of death. Secrets creep out from the shadows and leave Cruz with more questions than answers in this fourth title in the hit series.

A major discovery forces the Explorer Academy into the limelight in The Star Dunes, but Cruz has much more on his mind than 15 minutes of fame. A new face on board the ship brings Cruz's worlds colliding, just as a major close call tears them apart. En route to Africa, Team Cousteau is now down a major player, and Cruz can't help but be preoccupied by the hole in his life. The discovery of his mom's next clue leads him to the most exotic location yet - a vast desert - with no other information to lead the way, while an unlikely ally helps Cruz pursue another piece of the puzzle. Just as things seem like they might turn out alright, Dr. Fanchon Quills has a technological breakthrough which gives Cruz a glimpse into the past and reveals more about his future than he may really want to know.

So good!

I love these books!! One of the only bad thing I have to say about it, is the narrator doesn’t really pause between spaces that should have a pause… anyways! It was so good!!

An Excellent Series for the Middle School.

As a retired language arts teacher of middle school students and also a retired librarian, I wish I was teaching again just to be able to introduce young adults to this series. They are the "whole enchilada" and would be excellent at keeping kids hooked, a challenge in the age of social media. I could use each book to teach lit skills, math, science, geography, and who knows what else. I actually became acquainted with Trudi on social media through our shared love of all things cats. I had several of her earlier books in my school library and was excited when I heard about this project. She didn't disappoint! Now she's working on another series with a female protagonist that I look forward to reading.

The amount of research. Wow.

The amount of research this narrator had to put into this is unreal. From the amazing accents to the pronunciation of local dishes (for example) from each country. That didn’t just happen. And then the research that the author did with regard to each country. Wow. Well done.
