About this listen

Joshua and Daniel Duncan love Halloween. The unhealthy snacks, gory horror films, and corny decorations warm their teenage hearts like no other holiday ever could. However, on this Halloween night, someone special is at their front door. Someone they've known their whole lives. There's always room for family.

Wonderfully wicked short

Family is a wicked short story that will !make you think twice about opening the door for family. This short had me on pins and needles until the very end. Syon Das is definitely an author worth keeping an eye on. Paul Burt narration absolutely brought out the creepiness of the characters. I loved all the horror and gore. Do not miss this short I promise you will love it. I received this review copy at my request and it was absolutely sensational. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Good performance of a weird short story

This story started good with the setting and initial characters then seemed to rush a little fast causing the second half to not hit as hard as it might've if it were fleshed out a little further. The performance was great though.

Would give the author another shot in a longer medium for sure.

Wish there was more...

This Short story was given to me at my request and I am providing a voluntary review:

This was a well written and entertaining horror story. The narration was excellent. My only complaint is that I wish there was more! 19 Minutes is really quick. But still, a good story.

Not my cup of tea

I had requested a free audiobook ("Sinister Seniments" by K.C. Finn) from the narrator in exchange for an honest review. As an addition, he included this short story (19 minutes) as a freebie. I figured I’d start with the freebie first since it wouldn’t take long to get through. Where to start…

I would love to know how the narrator speaks naturally. He does good with the character voices but his narrating voice was a bit much. I get he’s narrating a “horror” or scary story, but I felt like he was overdoing the “creepy” voice (or his attempt at one). He sounds like he has a unique-sounding natural voice so him changing it as much as he did wasn’t working for me. He came across as sounding very cheesy, in my opinion.

Now, the story was okay. I’m honestly not sure what the author was going for exactly. Was the Aunt a monster and if so, what kind was she? Was she supposed to be an alien? I was lost there. Obviously the story had the Attack of the Body Snatchers vibe to it, but at least there, I knew it was aliens. The idea of a family member coming to you and acting strange and whatnot would be questionable, but the story didn’t leave me thinking of having read something scary per se, more like a suspense-type story. That’s just me though. I think it’s mainly because there were no explanations to anything. The Aunt creature, why it killed, why it tried to pass as human if it was only going to kill those around it (the nephew). Plain and simple, I don’t like having a lot of unanswered questions at the end, ones that I know will never be answered (like a book 2). I’m more of a straight-forward kind of person.

Dark and Nutty with Room for Blood

Great character descriptions and dialog in this short, creepy story. The narrator brings out the dark mood of the story while also bringing several different character types to life. I really enjoyed cuddling in and listening to this tale.

Don't Answer The Door Halloween Night

This was a good creepy story. Perfect listen during the month of October when nightmares are a little more real. While I wish it was a bit longer to build more suspense, I think the author did the story right by keeping it short and not putting in a lot of filler. I really enjoyed the writing itself and look forward to a full novel by Syon. Paul Burt did a great job with the narration. He has a very distinct voice and I loved his character voices, especially Aunt Katie. Burt really added to the overall creepiness of the story.
