About this listen

After 12 years away from his coastal Florida home, Detective Dillon Storm is only now getting his sea legs back. When he pulls the body of a woman from the gulf while on an impromptu fishing trip with his nephew, Dillon thinks things couldn't get stranger. When that body is identified as a woman who was pronounced dead three years ago, he realizes how wrong he is.

Now, with little more to go on than a gut feeling and the years' old files from a case that couldn't be colder, Dillon will put his skills to the test as the truth of what happened to the this woman introduces him to new friends and enemies, takes him deeper into the underbelly of sun-soaked Naples than he's ever been before, and thrusts him to a part of the Gulf Coast he's never dared venture. And when an explosive connection between the dead woman and his half brother Peter is revealed, things promise never to be the same. Detective Dillon Storm is about to be pulled far from the shore...

Highly entertaining story!

Far From Shore was my introduction to Mark Stone’s writing and Joe Hempel’s audiobook narration. I wish I had read or listened to the first book in the series, so I had more context for the Storm family and their interesting relationship. I will say Mark provided enough back story about the area and Dillon Storm that I was hooked on the story in no time.

There was so much misdirection in this story I could swear I was at a magic show. Trying to figure out who was pulling the strings behind the murder and all the things befalling Peter Storm had me guessing. Heck even when I kind of knew who was behind some of the situations, I still had no idea the lengths they would go to, to remain in the background or just how vindictive they could get.

Joe Hempel took an excellent story and elevated it a couple of notches with his distinct character voices and delivery skills.

Wow! Color me surprised

Omg! The stuff that goes on in here just blows my mind! Again surprising moments in this one as well as a sneaky who dunnit. I like Boomer and Dillon geck I sometime like Peter (but I am always reserving judgement). I look forward to more. Joe Hempl again foes an excellent job.
