I Love Shelby!

Would you consider the audio edition of Fast Money: A Shelby Nichols Adventure to be better than the print version?

I would say that they stand on their own very well, I find that the audio book really brings the story and characters to life, I love being able to listen while I work (on thoughtless tasks only, otherwise I slowly zone in to the book and out of everything else)!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fast Money: A Shelby Nichols Adventure?

Probably when Shelby is talking to the Mexican police, she's so funny, she thinks it's a scam and totally blows them off without even a blink.

What does Wendy Tremont King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I LOVE the way she portrays Shelby, you really get a feeling for who she is by the inflection that Wendy gives her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud a couple of times, and my husband who was just in the room with me while I was listening, kept chuckling at certain points, even though he wasn't listening to the whole book with me.

Any additional comments?

I love these books, I read all of them and can't wait to listen as they come out!

Accents

I truly enjoyed the book, however the narrator needs help with accents. The. accent sounded more like Russian than Hispanic

It's getting complicated

Would you listen to Fast Money: A Shelby Nichols Adventure again? Why?

I like this new serious. I was not familiar with the writer but the book is rather a good listen. It has twist and turns and who is trying to kill who? And if she could just stop reading people's mind she might live to tell it. Read this one!

Stephanie Plum Similarity

Mostly the characters are entertaining and varied, sometimes laugh out loud fun. All are well developed and make you you really care about them. These stories are enjoyable if you don’t wait for Shelby to to get smarter as she goes. It’s kind of frustrating that she still doesn’t know how to protect herself or have a clue.

A total jerk

I am listening to this book for perhaps the third time. I find the series an excellent 'comfort book(s)". What I had forgotten was just how muck I despise her husband Chris. He is a self-centered ass. He doesn't physically assault Shelby but he is one of those men who is all fine as long as the wife follows his rules .. otherwise he shows himself to be the jerk that he really is. Shelby for her part seems to me to react to him the way battered women do to men .. make excuses. I find it sad that the author could kill off a character such as he and I would not give a sweet damn.

undecided..

I've gotten though this 2nd in the series but unsure if I want to invest anymore money than I already have. Storyline seems just ok, nothing really special BUT is enjoyable. Narrator has a pleasant voice and does the male performances tolerable but my issue is that I have to listen to this at 1.25 speed and even then she still sounds robotic at times, which is extremely annoying.

It is becoming tedious to hear the same thing's over and over, such as, putting her guards up or down, the constant reading of other's thoughts- yes I know she's able to do this but it's like 90% of the content is her relaying other's thoughts vs actual character interaction. My other issue is that I'm over here rooting for Ramos vs Chris. I don't feel ANY chemistry between them at all and Chris' character is just so flat and boring. Shelby herself hasn't stood out. I don't find her compelling enough at this point to desire to know more and usually by a first book in a series the MC is my deciding factor if I'll want to continue. I'm just not remotely there with this one.

The Shelby Nichols series is serious fun!

Why did I not learn of the Shelby Nichols series earlier? The protagonist is a great character and the mystery series combines suspense with comedic fun. Fast Money is book 2 in the 10 novel series. I have already purchased six and it they are as wonderful is the first two I will listen to all 10. Since in Carrots, the first novel in the series, she received a strong blow from a bullet graze to her head Shelby can listen to the thoughts of others. The unique talent is delightful except when it gets her into trouble like a hit man being assigned to kill her. She has changed from a stay at home mother of two and wife of an attorney to a wonder woman whose skills are very much sought after. Shelby's husband Chris, mobster "Uncle" Joey, and detective "Dimples" Harris are among the other great characters.

This novel and this series are great fun as I look forward to more of Shelby's adventures. The narration is as good as the novels' contents. I love this series!!
