About this listen

Washington, DC, Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career - and her confidence - after a disastrous investigation.

The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O’Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed and she’s assigned to the case. Things get complicated when she has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O’Connor’s friend and chief of staff...and the man she had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case.

Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can’t afford - especially when the bodies keep piling up.

I really enjoyed the story. The characters are very interesting. I appreciated the fact of the story, focused on the people and not necessarily detail details on scenery and furniture and color of items and stuff like that. I like Nick and Samantha and her partner and her father with the solid team that really rounds out the cast. I also loved the epilogue. The story lost a star for me because this is definitely police procedural lite. There are certain breaches of procedure that even for a romance novel were just a bit too hard for me to look past. It took me out of the story a little bit, but overall, it was a fantastic story and I will absolutely continue on with the series really enjoyed it.

This was pretty darn good!

This series was recommended to me and for an introduction for a series it had a good plot line. Here is my problem, it reminded me of another popular series that it kind of freaked me out and kept pulling me out of the story with its familiarity. in the second half when the action got going it was less if an issue. I did figure out the culprits but still found the who done it engaging.

This story is so good! I love the characters and the scenario of a strong female police detective who has a close relationship with her family and who finds love with a man involved in politics. There are crimes, family situations, and the developing romance. The performance is very good. I really loved this.

Very entertaining story and performance

I never suspected the murderer and that was great! I would've loved this story a whole lot more if I could have loved the main character, Sam. She seemed like a privileged brat that everyone seem to placate. Nick seemed weak next to her; I constantly winced on his behalf. As much as I love mysteries, I don't think I can journey on with Samantha, so O won't be following the rest of the series.
