Publisher's summary

Denver detective Jake McCoy is trying to recover - both physically and emotionally - from the shooting death of a young boy that also left her injured. She soon finds herself rehabbing at her cabin in the mountains, soaking in the remote natural springs - which is exactly where psychologist Nicole Westbrook vacations and soon stumbles across her....

When Nicole leaves the next day, the two women know little more about the other than her first name - yet they are now lovers instead of strangers.

When Jake returns to Denver, a serial murder investigation soon leads her to Nicole. As the investigation develops, their physical attraction threatens to compromise the case. Nicole finds herself struggling to remain in the professional closet that she's been hiding in for so long - a place where an out cop like Jake McCoy simply does not belong.

Once the crimes are solved, will the women go their separate ways? Or will the physical attraction and the gentle tug of love prove that opposites do attract....

Better Than Expected!

It started out kind of slow and I debated continuing on however, once it picked up, I was all in. I couldn't put stop listening. I found every opportunity to listen because I was anxious to know what was going to happen next? Who was going to be next? One would've thought I was one of the detectives, I was reviewing facts trying to cone up with clues, too. If you love crime, drama and lesbian fiction, this book is definitely the one to go with.

Good story

The story was a good mystery it kept me engaged. Abby was terrific as usual giving each character an alluring attraction to add romance and an insatiable desire to top it off.

The Book that Started It All

This was the first Gerri Hill book that I read that turned me on to her as an author. Since that afternoon in the Barnes and Nobles several years ago, I have read/listened to every piece she has wrote. I would highly recommend this book. The main characters are awesome people, who you are rooting for by the end. And the PLOT TWIST was completely unexpected and thrilling. Definitely is a great mystery/romance novel!

Mixed feelings

This is the second time I've listened to this book and it reminded me of two frustrating things. 1. I forgot how much I didn't like Nicole's mantra of "She's not my type" 2. How infuriating and weak Nicole is. ok so three things 3. Nicole's "friends" are stuck up elitist bitches and how I would like to tell them to get over themselves.
These 3 things really make me want to give this less than the four stars I gave it BUT I really loved Jake and her relationship with her partner and his character in general. I also really enjoyed the actual crime story part if the book. I'm sure real cops are probably way more critical than I'm being...I just really got into trying to figure it out...the first time I listened. When Nicole wasn't pissing me off I really enjoyed her and Jake's chemistry? Not really sure how to describe. Basically, how Jake cares for her and sees Nicole's truer self and from Nicole's POV when she is being honest with herself. Listen and that might make sense lol. I also liked Jake's dog.
lastly, I really enjoyed the narration - two thumbs up.
So with all this said I would recommend the book. Maybe Ms. Hill's intention was to make some characters very unlikable and one of the main characters flawed and hurtful with some compassion, for her clients, thrown in. If that was her intention she nailed it! 😋

Great story! Loved the plot and twists. Nothing was a given in this story and I loved that. Nice balance of mystery and romance. Impressive.

Action drama w/ some romantic drama

Although the constant self doubt of the romantic pairings is more than overused in lesbian literature, there’s enough action to move this story along. And it moves quite well, mixing crime drama with, well, lesbian drama.
Abby Craden gives her usual A+ performance.

Excellent!

I read The Killing Room years ago when it first came out and I loved it. Now on audio and narrated by Abby Craden? This was as exciting as a newly published Gerri Hill book.
