About this listen

From two-million-selling author Joy Ellis comes one of the most highly anticipated mysteries this year.

Now.

In the beautiful gardens of Shelley House a shocking discovery is made. A blackened hand dangles over the side of a wheelbarrow. The horrific scent of burnt flesh lingers in the air.

Detectives Nikki Galena and Joseph Easter are called in to investigate.

Twenty years ago.

A family destroyed by tragic secrets. The scientist father who killed their gardener, before being murdered himself. The brother who disappeared, never to be seen again.

Until now?

Nikki and Joseph must find a man who's been missing for two decades and unravel the painful past of a broken family before anyone else dies.

How do they keep getting better?

I'm not sure what type of magic is spun, but somehow in the THIRTEENTH installation of this great series one of the best stories thus far is here. It hooks you from the beginning & never let's go. What a ride!

Both logical and clever!P

Well, the core characters remain almost painfully, predictable in repeated circumstances, they are stretched or wrong footed when new characters and situations arrive. I love that every case is unique and offers twists and turns I never see coming.

A good book but not as good as previous books

Joy Ellis is one of my favorite writers. I've read the books about Jackman and Evans before I started reading this series.

I didn't really like this book. They are trying to solve four cases and I was trying to keep track of everyone to see if I could figure out why Oliver blames Nikki. Remembering all the victims, families and suspects don't help at all!

It seemed a bit too easy to find the people who had worked on the cases. Witnesses remember perfectly what happened years ago!

Wonderful Procedural

I’ve loved all of the books/audiobooks in this series. They are interesting, well-written, and the characters are wonderful. The narrator does a great job as well. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another good Nikki Galena tale

This one was a bit strange. I had to back up and relisten several times to make sure I was understanding who was doing what. But it all came together well in the end.

Lots of twists and turns

Like the complexity of the geographical setting - well described but also pretty foreign to me
