Loved It

This is the 1st book in the “Wild Cross Family Series”. This is the 2nd time that I have the opportunity read a book by by Stella Williams and I must that I most definitely will be reading more. I had the opportunity listen to Bechet and Isis on audio and this is an entertaining easy quick read that had me enthralled from seeing Bechet on the audio cover to listening to the audio version. These two are awesome together love their chemistry. I enjoyed going on the journey of romance with Isis and Bechet.
I am looking for to the next book in this series “Yarding Braxton”.
I an ARC audio version and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

2 stubborn people

This book is about Isis and Bechet. Isis is a strong, fierce, and independent woman. Isis is in politics. Isis also has a lot of societal expectations placed on her as well. Isis meets Bechet at a party she wasn't even supposed to be at. Bechet is also a strong individual. Bechet proposes a friends with benefits relationship since he's not into dating. Isis has a had time trusting any man because she has been burned. Their relationship doesn't go anything like they planned. Most of the time you would they're enemies but Bechet doesn't give up so easily.

Love 💕 It!!!!

Bechet and Isis were definitely meant to be together. They both are looking for the same thing yet it took them a while to realize it. Isis was most definitely a challenge. Thanks to Bechet's determination he eventually won her over. I'm so happy they ended up together.

Bechet and Isis

I adore Bechet and his family. It's just one of those families that make you want to be apart of it. Isis is a strong independent woman with career aspirations. 2 strong willed people in the public eye. So cute!.

Decent Story, Poor Narration

I wanted to love this book, truly. The book centers a strong Black female lead, Isis, with big goals and the drive and determination to achieve them. Her connection to Bechet is strong and instant, though she keeps her guard up and wits about her after their initial meeting. Overall the story isn't too bad. I think it might work better in print than in audio form. I personally couldn't get into the older female voice trying to bring the characters to life. It took me completely out of the story and didn't feel like a good fit at all.

Nice (Read) Audiobook

Felling Bechet is definitely nice read. The characters and their storylines flows nicely, along with a chemistry that is felt throughout the book.
Let me just say, I was afforded the opportunity to listen to this book being read on my road-trip. And let’s just say that when I stopped at the gas pump, I entertained a few people around me. lol…

Although this is the first time I’ve ever read (listened to) anything from this author and it will definitely not be the last. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.

Any opinions, recommendations, or suggestions expressed within this review are solely and uniquely made by me. I originally and voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book as an audiobook via Bsprout.

Wild Cross Family Book 1

This was my first story by the author and I think I'll try some of her other books. I had assumed there'd be more of a supernatural part to the story than the hints that were sprinkled about. I enjoyed Isis! She had such a strong personality and worked hard to get where she was at and where she wants to go. I could totally understand her hesitations about Bechet because she's a woman in politics trying to make a name for herself. Though, there were enough times where I wanted her to pull her head out of her behind as well. Bechet was a likable enough character, a little more bland than Isis, but overall likable.
There's swearing, and some steam in the story.
Note: the paranormal element to the story is pretty small. It's only mentioned a few times and is not much of a factor. It seems like the series builds on that later, but I haven't read then yet.

I liked the narrator! I thought she did a swell job reading. I did change the reading speed to 1.2x, because the reading was a bit slow for my taste.

Narrator Issues … "Plot" Issues

This book bothered me on several levels. First, I did not like the narrator at all. She's narrated at least one other book I've listened to, and her voice just is not right for young female leads. She sounds like a much older woman who has smoked much of her life, giving her voice a rough and gravelly sound that just isn't pleasant to listen to for hours on end. She also mispronounces words here and there. For instance, “droll” was pronounced like “drawl.” And the hero’s name! I can't say whether it’s a true mispronunciation, but when I read the hero's name in the book title, I heard it in my head as French, like “beh-SHAY.” Weird, but it could be a family name. Inexplicably, this narrator pronounces it like Beckett. Even if you don't go full French and pronounce the “t,” “ch” doesn’t have a hard “k” sound unless you're from northern Germany speaking German! This book was filled with gratuitous profanity. Everybody swore, even the heroine. Not a fan of profanity in books at all, and this seemed particularly over the top. It added nothing to the characterization or plot. Speaking of plot, I wouldn't say this book really has one. The “plot” vacillates between detailed, somewhat icky intimate scenes and the couple fighting with each other. Not a fun reading (or listening) experience, at least not in my book. The book should come with a few trigger warnings, as the heroine was certainly in physical danger from one of the male characters in the book. Not recommended.
