About this listen

The last book in the New York Times best-selling dark romance series. Where love tries to triumph and darkness continues to reign...

"I'm in love with her, but it might not be enough to stop her from becoming the latest victim of the Debt Inheritance. I know who I am now. I know what I must do. We will be together - I just hope it's on Earth rather than in heaven."

It all comes down to this.

Love versus life.

Debts versus death.

Who will win?

shredded

Pepper Winters delivers an epic ending to this series. My heart was opened up and exposed at what Nila and Jethro had to face to finally end the debt inheritance. I felt guilty joy, justice redeemed, and wiped tears from my face. Will M Watt and Kylie C Stewart will forever be imbedded in my mind as Nila and Jethro.

Surprised me

This series had some really dark and disturbing parts to it that were difficult to listen to. However, the character development was outstanding and the narration in my opinion was superb. I began to enjoy the books As the humanity of Jethro became apparent and began to shine through. A fascinating story, and a peek into the life experience of extremely sensitive people. Excited to read the Epilogue.

Definitely the most intense book!

Obviously all the books were intense, this one was just unrelenting and so emotional. I knew what was going to happen and I still cried. Torture, terrorizing, fear, soul gripping grief, wonder, possibility, hope, hopelessness, guilt, retaliation, rebirth, fierce, and undying love.

Narration was pure perfection by both!!

Read this series!!! You won't regret it!!!

This series has been by far my favorite, and I've read/listened to many books. I've never experienced duet narration before and it just added to this amazing series.

Sometimes in a story there'll be two narrators, both male and female. You'd think that the female would voice the female characters and the male would voice the male characters. (Not trying to sound sexist. It's just what we're used to hearing, with women often having higher voices and men often having lower ones.)
So it gets kind of confusing when the female narrator voices both the male and female characters during the female character's pov, and when the male narrator voices both the male and female characters during the male character's pov. It gives each character two separate voices, that often sound so different, and it can be confusing.

However, this series doesn't do that, and I'm eternally grateful for it. This has been my first experience with back and forth narration. Will M. Watt only voices the male characters and Kylie C. Stewart only voices the female ones. It makes for a great reading experience and it's much more clean cut and realistic. Pepper Winters did an excellent job on this series and the narrators brought it to life in my mind. You should definitely check this series out. <3

Crazy beautiful story

This story had me feeling every emotion from anger and frustration to crushing lows and even higher love. When I first started I was not sure if I liked any of the people but then you learn more with Nila and you see how and why she did what she did. I hated cut and Daniel but by the time the story was done I found away to understand each person. That does not mean that what horrible things they did was okay. They all tried to live with what they thought was right at the time even if it made me want to smack some of them but you see that every look and action all comes together for an amazing end. It makes you feel that life is Precious and fleeting and that you should always live your truth. I am so happy to have experienced this story.

Edge-of-Seat Dark Mystery/Romance

Pepper Winters’ 6.5 books in the “Indebted” series have compelling elements of mystery, crime family, romance, erotica, and history genres all wrapped up in one very dark package. This saga of love and war among two very dysfunctional families packs a wallop.

Nyla Weaver is a successful, famous 28-year-old fashion designer who is rich with generations of family money as well as her own. Her well-known English family carries itself with old money grace and elegance. Her mother “left” the family years ago, but her father (Tex) and twin brother (Vaughn) shelter her like a small child; as a result, she often behaves like one. Nyla is introverted and unaware of her complex family history.

Jethro Hawk is the 29-year-old heir apparent to the Hawk family fortune. His English family comes from new money. His father and 2 brothers (Kass and Daniel) are quite crude and unrefined. A daughter lives as a disabled recluse on the property. Grandmother is refined and smart as a fox. The Hawks are the arch enemies of the Weaver family, though initially we do not know why. The Hawk family earns its money by means of illegal/nefarious activities. They also lead a vicious gang of motorcycle thugs who act as enforcers for the Hawk family.

While at a fashion show In Italy, Nyla’s dad pushes her into a date with a mysterious and heretofore unknown man. Nyla’s protective brother is suspicious but she somewhat reluctantly goes along. The cold, aloof man in black leather introduces himself to Nyla as Jethro Hawk. Without much ado, he spirits her away on his motorcycle, drugs her, gets her on a plane, and flies her to the Hawk family’s medieval castle in England.

In addition to the fear about her abduction and imprisonment by a savage stranger, Nyla is left with confusion about her protective, loving father’s apparent part in a sick, well-executed plot against her.

It is on the Hawk estate that Nyla gradually learns about the Weaver and Hawk families’ 600-year feud. She also learns about the purpose of her “visit” there and the terrifying role she will play — all to honor a long and twisted family tradition.

The courage and tenacity of Nyla and her few supporters is what keeps this series moving. This small group undergoes every form of gratuitous abuse, violence, subjugation, and continuous obstacles that can be imagined in their efforts to escape their horrific circumstances.

If you have read Natasha Knight’s “Dark Legacy” series (3 books), you will notice a very similar plot and similarly dark themes to the “Indebted” series. “Dark Legacy” is equally well done and creepy. I recommend both series!

What I like about this series: 1. Extremely well-developed characters. We become very knowledgeable about the characters’ motives, personalities, Achilles heels, and unfortunate backgrounds. We become very invested in several characters’ personal issues and battles. We fight alongside our favorites to free the good guys in the Weaver-Hawk feud. 2. Jethro’s portrayal as a sensitive, emotional man. We don’t often see this type of male character in any genre, so it’s a refreshing change! I realize Jethro starts out as an Alpha, but he himself describes it as a purposeful cover for his authentic, sensitive self. 3. Incredible detail in the stories of the past, the documented agreements, the physical environments (inside and out), and the events. Obviously, Ms. Winters did a lot of planning and research in order to lay out such a complex set of interconnecting story lines. 4. The narration — in particular, Will Watt — is phenomenal! What a talent to narrate so many male voices of various ages and make them stand out as individual characters. Really well done!

What I did NOT like about this series: 1. The male and female main characters have sex every 20 minutes and at the most unreasonable moments. For instance, the female MC almost dies at one point, is resuscitated, and then returns to the house to immediately have sex with the male MC. Each of the many times that these two have sex, we hear about it in excruciating detail from start to finish. Sex scenes are great, but there is just too much. 2. Every time the female MC suggests sex, talks during sex, or asks for something during sex, she cries/whines like an injured cat. If a real-life man had been in bed with this whiny woman, he would have left after (or during) the first encounter, never to return!

I truly enjoyed this series and found myself on the edge of my seat during the couple of weeks in which I read all 6 books. I could not wait to get back to the books when I had to work. Even my husband started asking for updates on the story! I highly recommend the “Indebted” series!

Trigger Warning: The 6 books in this series describe human behavior at its most depraved, brutal, and evil. I have read hundreds of dark romances, and this series is in the top two in terms of sexual depravity and violence against women. If you have any triggers for physical, psychological, or sexual abuse, or for torture, you should probably pass on the series.
