About this listen

First of My Kind is the story of Nathan Myers, a Missouri farm boy who, through a chain of events that happens halfway across the galaxy, finds his way from the seat of his Grandfather's tractor to the command of a starship from a lost super race.

Nathan will tell you in his own words about the life and death struggles he encounters on his journey. He will tell you about the humor, peril, and pain of his galactic education. Even with the help of an eccentric A.I. and the most unlikely of allies, he still finds it easy to lose his humanity to the horrors and injustice of a galaxy no one could have imagined.

Really great plot and character development! Looking forward to the rest of the series. This would make a great TV series! Thankfully there is very little foul language and no sex scenes! There are several close quarter combat scenes and although the author shares some pretty gruesome battles thankfully they are not overly grotesque… i do not watch or listen to blood and guts filled entertainment. So far this is an awesome adventure!

Really great plot and…

It is pretty obvious that the author knows notjong of wolf behavior and interactions with humans at the start of the story. But he had to start the story with some action I suppose. Otherwise it's a fairly decent story, if not a bit simplistic.

Good Start, but

the story line is great, the supporting characters are well thought out, but the MC is poorly developed. you don't take a Farm boy with no world experience and turn him into a Military Commander with situational experience. implants and futuristic training i can get behind, that just gives you a killer soldier not an expert Commander. the MC goes from red neck to Gen Patton over night. No MC development at all. I say this because I grew up on a ranch in TX and join the Army as an Officer. it took years of training and combat deployments to realize what the Writer just throws out will nilly. there is so much story that the writer could have had if the time was taken.

MC is unrealistic

Well written, outstanding performance, a most interesting story line. Only one question, when will Marc Stevens give us more?

Thoroughly enjoyed the “read.” Interesting characters, written in a style that evokes images in the listeners mind. Puts you in the action.

Classic science fiction

Excellent book

I genuinely felt like Samuel Jackson's character in Pulp Fiction.. SAY COMMANDER ONE MORE (EXPLETIVE) TIME... but if you can slog through Commander being in nearly every sentence for hours at a time you'll have a great time listing.

Commander!

The storyline and characters are interesting enough to make you stay engaged. I think it is a bit similar storyline of The Expeditionary Force series. I liked the alien characters that are very unique and imaginative. The story starts very slow almost as if you are reading an instruction manual for surviving in the wilderness. It gets better as you go along but that instruction manual writing style lingers. It got a bit annoying at some point. However, it was interesting enough for me to want to see where it ends up. This will make a cool video game.

The Writing is a bit like an instruction manual!

The first 4 chapters are highly skippable. The rest of the book tries to be noble and altruistic, but felt very "after school special" to me. It was still a fun story, but in the end, if it wasn't free, I would have totally passed on it. The narrator was pretty good and carried the story.

Meh...

a good story. it does provide emotions to alien races that are more similar to human emotions and human responses in certain situations as opposed to completely alien responses so that makes it less of a definite human alien interaction as opposed to human and unusual human interaction. overall still very good story with relatively Nonstop Action. Some of the action does however become a little bit on the repetitive side.

good read
