About this listen
Darlene Caldwell has spent a lifetime tending Sycamores, an estate located five miles south of a small town called Peculiar. She raised a family in the spacious home that was her grandfather's legacy, and she enjoys being a pillar of the community. Sycamores is the kingdom where she reigns as queen...until her limelight-stealing twin sister unexpectedly returns. Carlene Caldwell, veteran of the Broadway stage, is devastated when she realizes that an unsuccessful throat surgery has spelled the end of her musical career. Searching for a new purpose in life, she retreats to Sycamores, her childhood home. She may not be able to sing, but she hopes to use her knowledge and experience to fashion a new life in Peculiar, the little town she left behind. Haunted by a tragic romance, Magnolia Caldwell is the youngest of the Caldwell girls. Nolie has never wanted to live anywhere but Sycamores. She spends her days caring for her dogs and the magnificent gardens she's created on the estate, but when she meets a man haunted by his own tragedy, she must find the courage to either deny her heart or cut the apron strings that tie her to a dear and familiar place. Can these sisters discover who they are meant to be when life takes an unforeseen detour? In a season of destiny, three unique women reunite and take unexpected journeys of the heart.

Great story
Easy listen. Great story about sisters, where life takes us. The things that bring us back home. Sibling rivalry. Old loves, new loves. Small town gossip. As someone else said in a review that I read, at different points in the story each sister got on my nerves and I wanted to smack them. At the same time that made it all the more intriguing & kept me listening!

Nice story
I wanted to smack all three sisters at some point in the story which I suppose shows I was drawn into the story. By the end I felt I knew them and was vested in their lives.

Great Story by a Good writer
I have read most of the books by Angela Hunt. Some are really good some just average.
This one is very good. If you like Christian fiction you will be pleased.
Loved the narrator! Cynthia Darlow is one of my favorites. Fans of the Miss Julia books will recognize her distinctive style of Narration. Give it a try.

Love the title
The name of the town is Peculiar. And the characters are a little peculiar- or eccentric. Three sisters find love - love of God, love of family, and for two of the sisters love of a soon-to-be spouse.

Warmth and Hospitality at it's best!
If you could sum up Five Miles South of Peculiar in three words, what would they be?
Warm, Simple, Old-Fashion
What did you like best about this story?
The small town atmosphere of the setting. This is not a deep book, but is very fun to read. I found myself missing the 'sisters' once I finished the book. I loved every minute of this book.
Have you listened to any of Cynthia Darlow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Never had heard her before, but has since, I have downloaded another book being read by her. Love her voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The twin's confrontational talk. After that discussion, what a change came. Good for us to think about.
Any additional comments?
I loved all the quite advise Nolly gives during this novel and the way she expresses herself.

Not interesting ....very predictable . no depth
I pretty much described the book in the headline. Not interesting, not captivating in any way. It was not charming. It was not funny. It did not make me cry. I was predictable. It lacked depth in so many ways.It seemed more like an abridged version, something left out that would have made you connect with the characters.
