About this listen

USA Today best-selling author Priscilla Oliveras launches a new romantic comedy series set in Key West, Florida and filled with humor, Latinx culture, and fun family dynamics perfect for summer beach listening....

Sought-after social media influencer Sara Vance, in recovery from an eating disorder, is coming into her own, with a potential career expansion on the horizon. Despite the good news, her successful siblings (and their perfect spouses) have a way of making her feel like the odd one out. So, when her unreliable boyfriend is a no-show for a Florida family vacation, Sara recruits Luis Navarro - a firefighter paramedic and dive captain willing to play the part of her smitten fiancé...

Luis’s big Cuban familia has been in Key West for generations, and his quiet strength feeds off the island’s laidback style. Though guarded after a deep betrayal, he’ll always help someone in need - especially a spunky beauty with a surprising knowledge of Spanish curse words. Soon, he and Sara have memorized their “how we met” story and are immersed in family dinners, bike tours, private snorkeling trips...sharing secrets, and slow, melting kisses. But when it’s time for Sara to return home, will their fake relationship fade like the stunning sunset...or blossom into something beautiful?

The Summer I Turned Pretty and its two sequels follow Belly Conklin as she comes of age over the course of several summers at Cousins Beach. Belly visits the beach every year with her mother and brother, along with her mother's childhood best friend and her own children. It's the perfect combination of romance, teenage drama, and family conflict.

This is the first book by the author that I’ve read. I totally enjoyed it and would recommend.

This is a wonderfully sweet romance

Island Affair was just ok. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great.
I liked Key West as a background character. All the love that was shown to Key West was really great. I liked the chemistry between Sara and Luis. I also like that it was a fast listen. I feel like I didn’t waste too much of my time.
What I didn’t like was the story. It was cheesy and shallow. The problem that both main characters faced was handled trivially. Although both are serious issues they seem to be addressed in a very afterschool special way. Which lead me not to care about any of these people. The worse part of the book was the ending. The book just seemed to stop. The distance was not addressed. Sara’s business situation wasn’t addressed. I don’t know if I missed why he was on forced leave but that wasn’t addressed either.
I would not recommend this book to anyone else to listen to invest their credits.

Such a feel good book. I found it put a smile on my face for the entire ten hours. Simple and predictable story line but well done.

Just what is needed right now

Overall just decent book. Story takes off pretty quickly but it’s a pretty standard no surprise ending. If you want an easy book to read and be able to put it down when you need to this is a good book. Not a waste of time to read but nothing impressive either

This novel tackles heavy subjects and tricky family dynamics in a sunny, breezy setting. Each protagonist has a complex relationship with their family and heavy issues to tackle. Thrown together through extraordinary circumstances, they challenge and support each other in a way that is grounded in the truth of loving relationships.

Lighter on romance than you might expect from the fake relationship meets forced proximity set up, Island Affair transported me to Key West with it’s authentic descriptions of culture and scenery.

It was an okay book! I wish it had less fillers in it and more plot but it wasn’t bad

The performance was good, the story felt lacking and I never felt fully engrossed in it.

It was refreshing reading a beautiful, lighthearted love story. Also loved the language and vocabulary.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the family dynamics. And the Navarro family was hilarious! I just wish I would have had more time with them (but the book cover says it's "first in a new series" so 🤞). Coming from a Latinx family, I get the "all in your business" dynamic and REALLY enjoyed it. Even caught myself yelling "Yes! Exactly!" A couple of times.

I love being able to read about families that look and sound like mine. And characters in general that look and sound like me. I look forward to reading more books from Priscilla Oliveras in the near future.

Guurrrl... I'm searching that backlist!

I love the setting & Latinx aspects. And the storyline & characters - & the issues the face are realistic. Plus, the cultural aspects of the Navarro family relationships are well-done. A fun happy-ending story - & while I’ve had the title in my Audible list for awhile, so glad I listened now - I’ve just ordered book 2 in the series & it will arrive on its 4-27-21 release date!

Wonderful story & characters
